Title: front bushes questions
Post by: javalin on 02 February 2011, 10:11
Hello!

My bushes are screwed, lots of play when you waggle the wheel   Its a GTI.

So after some advice (obviously they need changing) but I can either:

1)  Replace with poly bushes

Whats peoples thoughts and experiences with poly-bushes?  Any recommendations?
Anybody recommend a tool for re-fitting them?

2)  Replace the lower arm with pre-fitted bushes.

     http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g3suspension.php (http://www.vwspares.co.uk/g3suspension.php)

I assume from http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed/Campingart/jettatech/polybushings/index.htm (http://faculty.ccp.edu/faculty/dreed/Campingart/jettatech/polybushings/index.htm) that I can just mark, unbolt and rebolt?

Cheers,

James

When I fitted polybushes I was very happy with it, it tightened the front end a massive amount.

They're also a doddle to fit!

I would go for Poly bushes, will help tighten the front end.

They don't need to be pressed in. I've got floflex at the front

http://www.floflex.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28_91&products_id=227 (http://www.floflex.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=28_91&products_id=227)

Says they're for mk2, but they fit the mk3 as it's the same wishbone.

Don't forget to get the track / camber checked afterwards.

so what do you use, just a vice/g-clamp to push the bushes into the arm....?

Make sure you put the bush in first then slip the aluminium tube in to tighten the bush up, otherwise you will need a press and you may break the bush.

interestingly floflex have just updated their site and products, there is now options for the mk3 8v, 16v, VR6.

Which is good as i've ordered the rollbar bushes for the mk2 - and they are not the same!  But the nice people there are taking them back, so I can order the correct ones.
