Hello,
Mine is coming up to its first service on the 10th and the garage offered an oil flush for £25. Is this worthwhile? Are they simply trying to make some money out of me? Shouldn't it be part of the service if its important?
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks

Opinions will differ wildly on this. I'd say don't bother with it. How long do you plan on keeping the car for? You can keep it covered under warranty for 5 years, so any less ownership time than this and it's not worth bothering about.
On a higher mileage car maybe a different story. I've heard horror stories concerning people doing oil flushes and some people swear by it.
If it contains detergents, which I'll presume it does, then you would really want to make absolutely sure that every last drop of contaminated oil was removed from the engine.
Personally I'd rather just have a top oil in the sump and change it fairly often.

If it was my car I would leave until the main service is due, just make sure they use longlife oil

Thanks Ex and Steve,
I think I will probably keep the car 5 years so your advice it seems is not to bother. Thanks. I have posted in the main section to see if i get a few more responses. Information is all.

This is another one of those highly dubious practises. In theory it seems like a good idea but in reality it is just more money down the drain with very little benefit, if at all.
Save the money and have a few beers instead. It'll still end up going down the drain but you'll enjoy it more

Cheers

Hey Joey,
This is probably one of the 'offers' which VW make every year/service interval. It is certainly not necessary at this stage, even if you have done 15k miles in 1 year. If you run high miles, maybe look at it next year or year after etc.
I think its one of their ploys to increase our service bills, personally

there is nothing in my manual about a "Flush"

My GTI's First Service at the end of March, will cost me £250/3 = £83.33. Not bad. I am also getting a free Valet thrown in for £80. Sweet. They'll need the car for a day but will give me a cuteassy car.

Thanks Snoopy/Asker, that seems reasonable for a main dealer. Don't know about an oil flush, do you think the main dealers would put synthetic oil in if you ask/pay extra??

Fully synthetic 504 00 Specific 5W 30 oil should be used as recommended by VW. So no need to pay extra.
