hello everyone, just wanted to say hi, hoping i can pick your brains about my upcoming purchase......   Focus ST!!!!   only joking its a R32, GTi or the ED30.

Got some time on my hands if my little MG ZR doesnt give up on me, so want to low mileage, realible car, although knowing how much patience i actually have  :lipsrsealed: i doubt i will hold out too long.

The R32 is lush, I think all the golf's look nice!

But it seems the 1.8T is one of the most popular!!

And you could get one of them, and get it maybe remapped twice, and maybe have the same power as an R32!

I duno guessing, but I think the interior is different lol!!!

I'd go for a 1.8T.  I've had one is a Passat and they are rapid, plus if you mod it you're not modding a car that is already a special edition.

Post by: essexboy on 02 February 2011, 12:59
i'll have a look into the 1.8T, not sure how far down the modding route i'll take though tbh, once you start modding cars dont you start having to upgrade certain parts to stop them breaking. Having owned a nightmare of MG ZR, reliability is my number one priority i'm fed up of having my car sat i the garage being fixed (its a running joke at work)
is the interior etc all the same outside, just engine size thats different?

Sorry, by modding I mean things like dropping it, wheels and so on.  Engine wise a remap and a few small mods would give you more than enough power.

Different models have different level of trims and such.

And all the golfs, are renown for reliability mate   there nice n smooth 2 drive too

thanks for all the replies,  going to show my newbie status now... by 1.8 i'm assuming thats just a 1.8 turbo, rather than a certain edition of the golf as I can only find older golfs with the mention of 1.8t in the headers..... probably me

Post by: essexboy on 02 February 2011, 14:45
its alright ignore me, searching golf 1.8 does the trick!!!

Do they they only go upto 2003? i prefer the mk5 look if i'm honest.... :undecided:

Post by: essexboy on 02 February 2011, 15:06
bit of everything really...   looks wise i prefer the mk5,  do they do a mk5 1.8?

Also seen a couple of cars which mention new cambelt and water pump on a car which has done 40k.  is that right.  On my MG thats abotu the going rate before something goes wrong. Just concerned that if the water pump wasnt caught at the right time more things could have worn?

Don't ask me mate lol!! I'm sure there is plenty too help out, I think there are models bigger then a 1.8 also  but it seems that like 80% of people on here have the 1.8T lol
Title: Re: hi from essex...............

In my experience the 1.8T or the 1.9TDi are the best engines in the later model cars, although I have had neither in the Golf and am unaware what engines that offer in the later/latest models.  I believe they changed the 1.9TDi to a 2.0TDi for the latest line, which isn't as good as engine.

Either way an exhaust, new filter and remap will give you a good power boost and better response without losing reliability.

You can also upgrade any car, I'm in the process of fitting a VW heated leather interior to my mk3 that it never came with.

The cambelt and such need to be checked whenever you buy the car and buying a car that has just had them done may save you money in the near future.  They're gonna need to be changed regularly anyways.

trouble is i have no patience whatsoever!!! keep telling myself not to rush into anything and the right car will come along!

I want a R32, just purely for the V6, but with petrol costs only going one way, the GTi would be more than adequate for my needs.  Up and down the A127 to work its bumber to bumper in the rush hour anyway.

Mods will be keep simple, just want it debadged, exhaust, lowered, colour coded bumpers if it doesnt have the option already done. touch screen (again if i cant find one with it already) and wheels I;m actually a big fan of the 18's Monzas!!

i actually found a pic of a car i like, not the wheels, but just the clean simple theme of it... will try to upload that.

how about you you started modding it yet or have plans in the future, i heard theres a place in lakeside near ikea that does remaps etc AED or something.

Sort of this sort of look, maybe a little too low for my daily needs....

Personally, if I get mine Re-Mapped, i'll be taking a trip down too R-Tech. Too many good reviews, too go somewhere where people may make errors etc.

When I have a job, and some cash I would like....

Too re-map it.
maybe induction kit/exaust
Boost Gauge
Bora Vents
Finally get my Sub and Amp in the boot!
Possibly upgrade the door speakers
Maybe some of these windscreen wipers keep talking bout, not sure which ones yet.
A silly one, but make the tubes under the Hood blue
And start too get the hang of waxing/polishing
Getting my mate to get out the light key scratches. (then it will be worth the polishing  )
New gear stick, as the leather in mine has fluffy bits now lol!!
not bothered bout a fancy one, so may just find one at a breakers.

What about you buddy

AMD Thurrock is the company you're thinking of, it's behind Ikea.  And no car is ever too low for daily needs
