Title: Bit of Judder
Post by: tech1889 on 01 February 2011, 21:01
Well as you know i now have the 150 leon cupra... well its a bit niggly but wana sort it out.. in 5th and 6th if i boot it from about 1300rpm when it gets to 1500 till about 1650rpm it judders enough to feel it in the car..  I cant feel it being down on power and if i slowly accelerate there is no judder..

Any recommendations ??

Also think im suffering from a duff hazard switch as the bloody terrible relay in it wont stop clicking lol got one on order from ebay £5.50 see it it stops that..

other than that theres no real problems other than stone chips lol

Yeah.....stop knackering the car!!

You're stressing the engine.  The 150 turbo doesn't really get going until 1700-1800rpm

Drop a gear and then boot it

As rhys said, what you are effectively trying to do is pull away from a standstill in 5th and overloading the engine. Only the fact you are already moving is what is stopping it from stalling out due to the inertia supplied by the flywheel.

Drive it properly and change in a reasonable power band and it will be fine.

Regulary doing what you have been doing will in turn mean you'll need a new flywheel, that is if you keep doing this, as I understand heavily loading at low revs gives the flywheel a hard time.

Did you not get the same if you tried booting your sh!trol from low down? Oh wait, you wouldn't because they got fcuk all torque

You are right there Rhys use to have to drop down a gear for power but when the power came in it had a much better power band than the diesel yet the diesel is more smooth..

hi mate, its neil who you had the leon from, i noticed they judder a bit when when the torque comes on strong in a gear to high, if i was going to give it the beans i would select a gear which put the revs at about 1800 (if you were at a relatively low road speed) that way you get the strongest torque and no judder :-)

ps. im bored of the gti's poor torque, ive found the 1.8t to be pretty gutless tbh although i prefer the interior massively over the leon/a3 interior, im looking to get back in a vxr soon to say there only 200cc bigger their a load quicker

ive actually had some luck with the car yesterday, i found a vacuum pipe which had completely torn off! and another which had split, i replaced the pipes and wow! the car is now quick..... i mean far quicker than it was when we swapped and ever since ive been driving it, im guessing the leak started while you still had it and had gradually got worse, did you ever notice it didnt feel as good as it once did? anyway im pretty happy with it now :-)
think im going to sort the looks out a bit now, ive painted the rear valance and ive got an R32 front bumper to go on so far, as i think you'll agree it looks pretty boring as standard lol
