is best to fit on the golf? i heard that if i got 18's or 19's it could put a strain on the power steering and shorten its life, is this true?
-
The heavier the alloys, the more strain will be put on the steering/suspension system. I've had 17" alloys and lowered suspension on my golf for about a year, and I have had to have some work done on the steering rack recently (luckily under warranty ), but I cannot be sure if this is due to my alloys and harder springs.

i dont know what to do, some golf's come with 17's dont they? so having them shouldnt be a problem?? but i really wanted some big wheels, but not if iam going created more problems for myself.

18's will be fine. If 18 inch wheels feck your car up then there will be a lot of very angry R32 and mk4 Anniversary owners
-
heh?
also would how much roughly does it knock your speedo out by?
-
I've had 19"s for around a year with no problems, but would definatly recommend 18"s
-
it wont knock your speedo out as long as you use the correct profile tyres, which will keep the overall radius practically the same.
-
ok cool, thanx guys
-
You need 205/55/16 225/45/17 or 225/40/18 tyre profiles. This will keep the radius almost exactly the same as your standard 195/65/15's.

18's are definitely the way to go IMO. Lower by 30-40mm and space them out at 15mm rear, 5mm front and they look the business.
