i turn the key to start the car up , but all i get is a relay click and nothing happens , any ideas ? was working the otther week
-
starter motor, look on gearbox and gently tap the starter motor with a small hammer, then try, sometimes they stick. if it still wont work then put it in second gear and roll it forward a bit, (starter could be jammed in the out position. )
-
ok ill go and give it a go
-
nope still no luck , would the relay still click if it was knackered ? i can see it sparking inside as its a white case
-
oh yeh it is stuck i had to give it a good wack ,how do i get it unstuck ?
-
take it off, or... leave car in gear, roll it back and forth, (if its still connected to flywheel it will turb with it and hopefully go back in,. there on like a screw kind of thing that shoots out when it spins,
the solenoid sounds like its activating but not turning.
try rolling it a few times then turn it over (out of gear obviously lol)

yeh well its defonately sticking at the minute , ill have to give it ago toommorow once i can get some one to push it with me lol

It shouldn't need a proper push, ie. no need to move. just enough to rock it whilst in gear.

oh right , on the mk1 forum there saying i need a new starter motor

You still may need to but if you haven't managed to rock the car with it in gear then I would try that first to unjam it.

Ah now you tell us!... I thought you were rocking with a standard engine!
Um, yeah.. I believe the starter is the same for yours and a TT

Well I suppose it doesn't really, a starter motor is pretty much the same regardless of car but access to play about with a faulty one is probably better with the orginal motor.
