hi there. just wondering if any1 can help with my little problem.
ive just brought a v reg 1999 golf gti. as i was driving it there was a woosh noise (as if aload of boost has come out somewhere.) and then cut out, straight after that it fired up and then died straight away. since then it will turn over and not fire up. it has no compression what so ever. all the plugs are fine so they have not smashed through the pistons. im still getting a decent spark and fuel aswel.
just wondering if anyone had any ideas?
thanks

Boost leak. Sounds like a pipe has come off - especially check the inter-cooler and pancake pipes
-
charge pipe blown off of somewhere
check intercooler connections and also where the pipe goes from the turbo to the intercooler
-
it has no compression what so ever.
if you've done a compression test and getting 0 on all 4 cylinders then chances are you've got bent valves. Check the timing/cambelt

cheers for your help, valves are all fine as i have taken the rocker cover off and the cams are turning as they should.
-
doesn't mean they are fine...

lol.. do a compression test with a decent screw in tester.
remove all teh spark plugs, put the gauge into the cylinder crank the engine over for 5 seconds . check the reading, move to next cylinder,
should be between 145 and 190 psi on all cylinders, with a difference no greater than 10% on all 4

thats how i did the compression test mate
-
what readings did you get..

i dunno my dad did it im goin bk over to the workshop later so i will let u no

my gti did this when i fitted my front mount, was a hose blown off, on th journey home i had to rev the tits off it to get moving from junctions otherwise it would die, if your dads got a ramp have a look under the drivers side and check the hoses on the intercooler then follow them to the turbo and the throttle body. making sure there conected and tight

disconnect the maf, if it runs you have a boost leak.
if it still does not run with the maf disconnected you have problems else where.
