how do i take the green filter out of my dash clocks
-
Take the clocks out, remove the filter :lipsrsealed:
-
yup. you can literally just pull it out.
-
Apologies for my earlier, rather useless, post! Hangover with no coffee = bad mood
Remove the clocks by popping out the warning light panel:

Next remove the headlight switch (you have to press the side to release it)
Once unclipped you will see a screw:
Undo the screw and use a screw driver to pop off the little blank on the other side of the wheel:
Once these have been undone you can remove the black plastic surround by giving it a good pull:
Undo the screw on either side and the clocks will pivot forwards:

I have no pictures for the next step, but the filter is located under the white plastic strip along the top of the clocks, there should be 5 clips holding this in. You can either do this with the clocks still in the car, but it's probably easier to reach behind them and unplug them. Once unplugged you can just pull them out. Hope that helps

what colour is the lighting with no filter then??

Just white as standard, but as you can see in those pics I have changed the bulbs to blue LEDs. I also changed the LEDs behind the lcd displays to blue and then to red:

Ignore the massive bright patches in the photos, it does not actually look like that, its just how the pictures came out.

so hoow o u change the color of the lcd cocks is it easy

It depends, some clocks are easy, some are hard!
If the back of your clocks look like this then it's easy (the red LEDs light up the lcds):
But if they look like this it is a lot harder and involves a soldering iron and a very steady hand:

mine are like the first one is it just bulbs or do u have to do somthing else

They're 509t LEDs and that is all you need. They're twist fit so take seconds to change, in the first pic you can see the 2 red ones for the lcd's and at the top the 2 blue ones for the dials. Later this week i'm going to solder some more bulbs into the top though for brighter dials

DOM if i pay postage there and back and give u fund for your beef fund do u fancy doing my Clocks i just want the LCD's ie the mileage and clock to light up Blue Im sh!te with electrics!

Seriously there is no need to spend money on postage, as long as you have the first style of clocks it is so easy that a monkey could do it!
You need to whip your clocks out to see what type they are, if they're the easy type you should have no probs doing it yourself. Get them out and post a pic on here and i'll soon tell you what you need to do
-
My clocks are they ones that require the led soldered so not the easy ones! i have the screw in bulbs for the lights shining on the clocks but the green bits annoy the F*** out of me!

Ah bugger! I've got a set of clocks like yours that are knackered anyway so i'll have a play with them and see how I get on. I'll let you know if I feel confident enough to try yours, the last thing I would want to do is to knacker someone else's working clocks :lipsrsealed:
-
Fair doos pal i appreciate your honestty.. Good luck with your other set!
-
This is what I did yesterday.
Kept the clocks blue, but stuck the old green bulbs back on for the LED display.

You can take the green filters out of the LCD's too.
I made some out of an old binder that was translucent blue. Red works OK.
But I have no idea if tehy still work as it's an old scrap set of clocks.
It does involve stripping them down though.

could we sticky this maybe??
will be really good for when i get round to this!!!
-
I'm gonna put red in my LCD when I get round to it... haha

I'll do a better guide at the weekend with clearer pictures and extra LED installs if you want? Then if the mods feel it necessary they can sticky that instead of this one, as it will be less cluttered with chat.
I've got UV led's on the way to fit into mine along with extra blue ones
-
that would be fantastic mate!!
defo worth a sticky guide!!!
-
decent guide this dom

Top man!!
-
mine is alll done really easy if your lcd screen bulbs are twist out ones
-
so if wanna change mine to blue, do i need to take the green filter out??
-
Yes mate, but it just falls out when you take the back cover off anyways.
-
thanks for that, gonna order some of ebay. am i right in thinking that the screw in bulbs are on the later cars. is it the same principle for the heater lights?
thanks.
-
the heater bulb is the same one that goes in the dash, but you have to disassemble a lot more of the dash. lol
-
Got mine this morning, gonna try it later. Does the steering wheel have to come off to get the clocks out
-
Going to finally get round to doing mine soon :D i just think blue looks abit 'chavvy' :undecided: think red would show enough light? i ordered red neon strips to do my heater controls :) will get clocks apart and check the bulbs! Cheers Dom.

Just done them, it was easier than I thought. Only took about 20 mins, can't really see much as its still light, have to wait till it gets dark for the real effect.

Nope, but you may have to lower it a little

A very comprehensive guide to modding clocks can now be found the in the maintenance section:
