Been thinking about the fuelling side of the engine recently while reading some other topics and realised that my fuel pump may not be up to scratch or is in danger of failing which could have serious consequences for the engine. As far as I'm aware it's the original one in there and it's knocking on the door of 12 years old now
So I've been looking at the various options, one of the easiest being the Walbro 255 in line pump. I think I'm right by saying this could be added to somewhere like the engine bay as an addition to the in tank pump to improve the stability of the flow.
Has anyone installed one? Would like some ideas on the theory behind it to makesure I'm thinking along the right lines. Hulmie has already suggested some other good alternatives that replace the original pump so there is no need for extra wiring
-
When using the Walbro 255 inline pump, you still use the old pump as a pick up but the actual pumping is done by the Walbro. There a many options on where to fit it, i.e outside the tank which keeps wiring to a minimum or i have seen someone who mounted it in there engine bay on the side of the cambelt cover. Personally think your asking for trouble if you get a fuel leak in the engine bay.
Here's a fitting guide for a inline walbro

why not just uprate to Leon cupra R fuel pump ??
-
Without seeing his build thread I don't know what sort of power hes running but if your looking to push quite alot then lcr pump just won't do. Luckily for me a lcr pump is enough as I plan to stay around the 300 mark
-
he's not pushing no where near that so the LCR pump is more than good enough
-
yeah LCR pump is a good alternative, it's just that genuine LCR pumps cost double what the Walbro pump does...
-
but they better install as in the tank.. also walbro's are hit or miss my friends with Jap cars run them and have problems with em..
-
when i was pricing things up there was about £30-£40 difference between a new walbro 255 and new leon cupra r pump from TPS
-
what would you rather Paul ??
-
im undecided as yet but think the walbro pump would give the better overall flow rate
-
I don't have a TPS over here
I'd rather have in tank myself, the Walbro in tank pump is what a lot of people have probs with as the pick up doesn't fit down far enough so you get starvation
Walbro external is £77 delivered, how much was the LCR pump?
-
leon cupra r one is £140 when i priced it up.
Just make sure your looking at a walbro 255lph pump and not a 225lph pump

-
as the LCR is double cant you get a secondhand unit ?? if not just get the walbro lol but you will then have 2 pumps wont ya ??
-
the standard pump will only be used as a pick up point and the walbro will be the one doing the pumping.
one thing i was looking at was if a r32 fuel pump would fit and what the flow rate is but struggled to find the info.
-
Will autodata have the info if so i will check..
-
R32 not on my Autodata... Have you considered a TT fuel pump ??
-
There is a second hand unit on ebay for £60...
TT/S3/LCR pumps are all the same I believe
-
i would get that seconhand unit tbh mate it will be more than good enough.. ask how many miles the car had done it came off..
-
54k
Might wait until the RR day on Sat to see how the fuel ratio is doing on a full throttle run
-
thats good defo worth it.. yer see how it is..
-
With the s3 pump and r32 pumps you need to mod it slightly, think the mk1 tt is same as lcr and doesn't require any changing
-
yeah something to do with needing a different pipe due to the drive system?

this what you mean with regards to fitting under the bonnet mate?
-
cant see pic ??
-
try again mate
-
yeh thats what i saw over on ukmkivs.
I'd rather having it closer to the fuel tank other wise its got a long way to pick the fuel up from
-
That's a neat install there looks real nice but as said I would think it's under a bit of pressure there being so far away from the pick up where else could you mount ??
-
i would just mount it before the inline filter.
-
dammit, cupra pump is sold
