Hi guys. I've recently installed my new stereo with an ipod adapter and I can no longer receive radio. I gathered that there is a particular wire to connect to make the ariel rise up to receive signal. But my question is, where do I connect this wire? Also is it possible to just skip this stage by adding an after market ariel to the bonnet? And how would I remove the original ariel?
Sorry for the noobish questions but i've never dealt with one of these types of antenna.
Thanks
Mike

you need to add the remote wire (blue) on the loom to the aerials power supply (should be blue too!)
or you can fit an internal powered aerial (many fit these behind the glovebox) and then ditch the one fitted (it should simply unbolt)

The original stereo fitted was a Sony and had the other blue wire, however my new headunit doesn't. Would I have to buy an adapter in this case? Otherwise all connects fine

have a look at the wiring diagram and see what colour it says is the remote wire is (for amp's aerials etc)
otherwise you could use the switching live although this means the aerial will be on every time your ignition is on (not a problem if you always use the radio but if you clean the car and don't use the radio etc it will still be taking power

Ok i'll give it a look and see what I can do. Thanks for your help

i'm assuming this is reffering to a mk3 none gti? as the Gti's are rear roof mount aerials!?
The wingmount aerials at the front are fitted to most CL and other none gti mk3 models...i dont recall them being electric rising but i suppose they could very well have been fitted. Maybe jus try manually lifting it by hadn yourself on the outside n see if that does the trick?
The blue remote wire most are reffering to is usually just to power the in line aerial antenna booster which is just a small cylindrical affair that lives behind the car radio. n the blue wire is connected to the radios remote output so that it is only active upon head unit switch on. so either the wiring behind the radio is at fault and the aerial isnt plugged in (or has fallen off by chance) so fetch it out to assess that...or you have a knackered car aerial on the outside...of course it could be the "tuner" built into the new radio that could also be at fault....maybe test a different head unit in the car if you have access to one n see if the same problem persists with that one perhaps!?

Well that statement is wrong as my '94 GTi had a wing mounted arial

+1
My 93 GTi when i had it had both wing and roof ariels which were both wired through, i could select which one i wanted!

quite rightly so...my bad...i forgot about the earlier models of gti in the mk3 range...the later ones had roof mount ones.
Even so...the rest of the information i said still applies.

i have a 96 with an electric wing mounted aerial.
