drove over a speed bump (very slowly!) in my local industrial estate and have successfully removed the front near side arch on my late mk2 :(
bloody things! the car is not that low but the speed bumps are the most vicious pyramid shape ever! grrrrr. got out of the car and the arch is bent in half and dragging underneath. was just being held on where it joins the side sills. it had left all the rivets in and snapped the joints on the arch.
oh well :(
on a more positive note, this does mean that i could go for a set of G60 shape front arches instead ;)

They are the scurge of the roads!!! Ive seen someone in a Renault 5 Turbo lose the bottom end of their engine going over one. Couldnt help but smile...

The early ones weren't too bad, but they seem to be getting bigger and bigger!

Apparently, if you damage your car on a speed hump, then the speed hump is technically illegal.
You are not allowed to obstruct vehicles on the Highway. So if something damages your perfectly legal vehicle (if it was illegal your MOT tester would of told you), then it is an obstruction.
Report the hump to the Police. If the hump is on private property, send the owner a bill, and follow it through with a County Court Summons.
Remember to take pictures of your damage this evening. (and then find two friends who can be witness - i actually saw you go over the bump ;-) )

I think they should be renamed to keep up with the times.
I mean they started out as humps, now they are more like mountains.
