Just had this car from Jord, bought it with KO4 setup (turbo injectors fuel pump MAF etc.) with custom downpipe, full milltek decat, but no FMIC, just a standard SMIC, (i knew i would need to invest in FMIC to run 275bhp as quoted) car has been stage 3 mapped custom code.
Came across my mate who got an Ibiza 2000 plate, KO3 turbo, but been mapped and has had most parts changed in the engine, bar the turbo, and he got a RR printout of 240bhp at the fly, 260 torque. So we had a little play, but he was pulling on me through all the gears. Granted, its a lighter car, and i had an extra person in my car, and i'm on bigger heavier wheels etc, but would a non existent FMIC really cause such a loss of power? 35/40/45bhp? what would your first port of call be to get back up to the 275bhp ish, other than a FMIC - if i t needs anything else? I'm going to get it RR'd to see what figures i get back so i know exactly how much its losing.
And i thought the general consensus was that KO3 turbo runs out of steam at 220bhp (at a push) and you cant really get anywhere above that?
-
KO3 runs out at 190ish
KO3s runs out about 240max i thought?
-
well his got other mods rather than just a map so i would have thought more about 210 on KO3 (at a push like i said) but either way hes pushing way over the odds if he thinks its KO3. I said it must be an S, but he's adamant its still a KO3
but more to the point - what do i need to do to get mine sorted, someone said the fact that mines been mapped with larger boost etc, that should be giving him a tonking regardless of what other mods hes had etc? forgot to add we had a play on a track, cough lol.

As above a ko3 would produce 180-200, with decat, downpipe, cai, tip, all silicone boost hose, bov, lighter pulleys, uprated side mount intercooler, eurojet racing pancake pipe upgrade, uprated exhaust manifold, catback exhaust and a live map he might get 200 but for 230-240 you need a ko3s
Not sure how much power you stand to lose but the standard intercooler is only good for around 220, i was making 221 bhp on stage 1, and on stage 2 i made 226, but when I changed my smic for a eurojet racing fmic, rolling road read 242bhp so it does affect it. I think the ko4-02x runs hotter than the ko3/s so maybe you could be down on power. One way to check power would be log maf readings and divide by 0.8 which gives a rough bhp approximation.

With SMIC your power will be limited around 220area, Told you on our test drives that the car was ALOT slower without FMIC.
A mapped K03s/front mount will beat you. Need to get a front mount back on it, Tried selling you it with car pal
-
yeahhh, i know you did  just couldnt afford your R32 bumpers to house it though haha  i know you said it would be down around the 230 mark as we couldnt really put a finger on exactly how much haha... think i know now roughly its a bit more lol. i will get it sorted  will a front mount be enough to sort it completely or will it need anything else?

oh, and one more thing, which FMIC would be good for this setup can anyone recommend one, and a link would be helpful too? - i'd like one that i can fit behind stock bumpers so i can keep the sleeper look, and put the lower grills back in after with a bit of modification? i found this one, but not sure it would fit behind standard bumper? and will it do the job well?

Think the only one that fits with grilles is the Forge one.
Get ready to have your pants pulled down at about 700quid..
Good bye bank balance (http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=1703INT&product=FMINTMK4F)

:shocked:fricken eck £147 ebay job done won the bid well the mrs did lol other wise buy it now £199 bargain
-
if your prepared to go see forge, speak to them nicely and they will do it for a good price im sure :). There stuff is 9/10 spot on and their I/C kits always fit spot on without much hassle unlike the cheaper versions.

The stock side mount will still flow enough for 270bhp but this will get dangerously hot, which will cause the power to be limited due to ignition pull, even with the oem sidemount you should still get really good torque 260-270lbft and have a huge edge on most k03s 1.8T. The THS is the best Golf mk4 FMIC on the market and should easy give you efficient power across the whole RPM range.
You only up the road from us by the sounds of it? If you pop down to us I will stick it on the dyno £foc and point you in the right direction to make sure the cars running safe... put it this way the last K04-023 AGU we remapped annihilated my mates BMW E92 M3 V8 upto 120mph from a 3rd gear rolling start...

so tempted by one of those FMICs :undecided:

Hang tight.. I am working on a group buy or discount code with THS.. They now do a kit for the mk4 130PD aswel. Its the most efficient 1.8T I have used, and for the price it makes imo the best on the uk market.

Would be spot on if you could mate, I'd find the money from somewhere for it lol
Come to think of it, it would be a bit cheaper for me anyway as I don't need the PCR pipe...

Thanks for the advice Nick, and would be good to pop down as soon as possible for you to point me in the right direction. I think Stevie Wonder might have mapped my car rather badly haha, not been able to see what he's doing, unless there's an underlying problem that doesn't show up on the diagnostics or something. I'll let you investigate when i come up. Will phone again when you are back in at R-tech for a chat, guy said you were out at the moment. Sooner i can get it sorted the better

Stevie Wonder  I seen some of there 1.8T AGU k04 maps and IMO they are pants, just all for one generic maps.
I will be back full time on tuedays.

Nick-quick question, what sort of temps do you expect the ko3s to be pushing out before ic?
