Title: mk2 fuel pump

hi ive got a mk2 gti fuel pump with standard fuel tank runing a vr6 engine but the fuel pump stays runing all the time is it spost to do this ?
or can i have it so it clicks on then off ? its allso got a 4 bar regulator if that makes any difference ?

no its not, what pump relay have you got fitted? should be 67, 80 or 167. bottom right slot if CE2 (hazard switch on column) or slot 2 if pre-90 (hazard switch on dash)

its a 167 an the hazards on the steering 1990 h plate ? :huh:

It should run all the time the engine is running, on turning the ign, it should prime and thats is it.

when i turn ignition it comes on and stays on untill you turn car off ?
it has the 167 relay in so dont get it ?

Sounds like the relay is sticking try another if you can

i wonder if the earth trigger from the ecu has just been grounded somewhere. gonna be a tricky one to track down!  the issue is if you have a crash the pump wont cut out, so its a safety thing.

look at fusebox pin G1/3, see if its been spliced to ground somewhere. if it goes off into the engien loom then you'll have fun tracing the issue.
