They're actually going to sell that ?
-
Due to go on sale in 2013, the car is just under four metres long - the same size as a Volkswagen Polo - and sits lower off the ground than a Lamborghini sports car at 1.18m tall.
Ground clearance issues? or comes decked as we prefer
-
LOL at it coming Slammed as Standard
I can run with that :D
On a serious note, that isnt coming anywhere near mine being near enough as low as me -.-
Think they need to re-assess the height issue :afro:
-
what do you think the 0-60 time will be? 10/11? ..... minits

11.9 seconds.
set of LM's, uncover the rear wheels, lower it more, badboy bonnet, subtle rear spoiler, bigger turbo and a better electric motor, jobs a good'un.
-
Looks crap.
-
Wouldnt fancy getting a rear puncture.
Looks god awful by the way
(lol @ how it gets to 60mph just 1.5 seconds slower than a MK3 GTI)
-
Awful looking thing :undecided:
-
supposed to be for sale in 2 years time :undecided:
-
Looks like a fcking Civic. Also why an earth would anyone in their right mind put a 'bad boy' bonnet on.. anything, only even seen 1 - 2 pulled off and they wasn't proper 'bad boy' bonnets.

I'm afraid the daily mail actually have it correct and the VW press release is wrong.
We want to go into series production with this car starting in 2013," VW Chairman Ferdinand Piech told Automotive News Europe in a statement. VW CEO Martin Winterkorn also confirmed a possible production debut for the model: "We will bring out the XL1 in Europe first, initially Germany. The U.S. and China will follow at a later date," he said.

What MK3s?

Looks good at the front, rear reminds me of an old citroen!

Agree, they clearly got so carried away with aerodynamics they forgot to attach wing mirrors :undecided:
-
If you read the article you would know that cameras provide the function of rear view mirrors.
LOL @ you all getting carried away that it will be productionised. It's an engineering show off exercise.
A bit like technological willy waving.

Well i thought that plus the lack of rear view but then thought they'll probably be using new fangled cam and monitor technology.

Several motoring sources have quoted VW execs saying 2013 sales in UK and Germany.

Several motoring sources quoted that in 2011-12 VW would be releasing a Bluesport roadster. I am yet to see anything released in the press about that since 2009.

Fair point, looked nice that did as well.
I think this is more likely to arrive in some form or other over the next couple of years as VW don't really have a proper hybrid car to rival the Prius etc.
NIck
-
Of course, I'm not doubting that it will in some incarnation make an appearance.
I highly doubt it will be in the same form as that though, I mean magnesium wheels, and ceramic brakes as standard on a mass production car... think not.
There are hugh commercial features that need to be worked through before it can be released. There are also considerations about just how much hybrid technology you wish to incorporate in to a car, they are great for a bit of a PR stunt, but coming down to the nitty gritty and it's not quite so pleasant.
There is of course the question of what sort of "fuel" you want to use as a second fuel. Batterys weigh a lot and cost a bomb to replace when they bite the dust (which they invariably do), on the Prius I think it's every 7 years or something like that.
Lot's of questions, and not many answers at the moment.
-
Agreed. 20 years time this will probably be the Golf MK10, lol
Nick
-
The way VW are going it will more likely be the golf mk200. What is it, 3 marks in 10 years so far. :lipsrsealed:
Unless the mk6 is really a 5.5. Good job the mk6'ers don't know about this part of the forum eh....
-
MK7 out next year isnt it?
-
No but the Mk5.75 is
-
Jay, your my hero ! :D
-
I only buy a new car when it offers something new and interesting. I bought my Mk5 for the fantastic DSG gearbox.
My next car will be an electric one with a a diesel or petrol engine just to charge the batteries or provide power to the electric motors, like the Vauxhall Ampera. (But not the Vauxhall as I hate Vauxhalls since the horrid Vectra).
This new VW is a bit old hat really.
