reading there about the theft again reminded me about my plate being cloned (private plate), its been 4 months since I had the police at my door.
So far thay have been at the house twice and so far pulled over once, they followed me for several miles from almost outside the house it was a bit like police camera action one car behind me as the other sped in front to block my car in, when I knew they were following and why I was a little naughty TBH making sure I hit the 50mph as quick as possible then cruise control..... made me giggle as I knew what they were up to. Jokeing apart it worries me that its still out there.....
The car is being used from what I understand as a getaway (some one got a beating)/drug tool.
It was so bad one time that they had the police helicopter round our estate checking the car was parked then 10 mins later the police popped round to quiz me, luckly the car had been stood for hours so could not have been used as the getaway that afternoon. Every time I hear a chopper around I expect a knock, my neighbours joke about it as well
I've still not had any accident reports or speeding tickets from the cloned car (still living in hope I don't). I've kept all the coppers details for reference just in case. The police advised that they need to stop me just to make sure I'm not the villan.
WHY DO PEOPLE WANT TO DO THIS OR STEAL CARS IS BEYOND ME.

This sadly is very common now.... Quite a few of our vans at work have had their number plates stolen. Probably so people can fill up and drive off with out paying for petrol. With the price of petrol these days I can't blame them tbo
If the police have knocked on your door a couple of times and followed you its likely the cloned car has been used for something fairly serious I would guess. Which is a bit of worry.

It is for this very reason I stopped using my wonderful private number plate. It can stay on retention. Probably could get a few thousand if I sold it. Hmmm....

Is it more common then for private number plates to be stolen?

Seems like it. I was stopped at least twice a month over a two year period. I therefore gave up using it.
However, this was 12 years ago. Might have a go again. :undecided:

To be near you would warm the cockles of my heart. But, sorry, I think I'll pass for now.
I found out, subsequently, that the number on my private plate signified very good luck in Nigeria. I wondered why so many Nigerians smiled when they saw it. I was even offered £5000 CASH for it!
For me CASH IS KING. :smug:
