Title: Best option DIESEL for 6-8k
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 25 January 2011, 09:07
Morning All,

A bit of an open question really, I'm interested to see what sort of things would be suggested for this.

So you have between 6-8k to spend on a diesel car.
It can be a maximum of 4 years old
Milage would preferably be no more than 60k (this is a little flexible)
You'd like as many "extras" as possible
You'd also like to stay within in the VW stable, but this is not a do or die decision
Running costs would also like to be kept to a minimum (I.e. tax, cost to fill a tank)

Also - Extended Warranties (warranty direct etc) - any thoughts from those that have them?

So... discuss.

Skoda Octavia TDI.

B6 Passat TDI.

Either with the 4WD option, because it means you won't look a tw@t when it snows and it'll tow beautifully.  This will impact on your tax and fuel economy though.

Find out how much a warrantee will cost and set aside that much money.  Nice little bonus for yourself when the period of your home-made warrantee wears out, or you will cover most things they will fail on without too much of an issue.

I did once get an engine rebuilt twice on an extended warrantee, mind..... because the first clowns f*cked it up!

No size specification so I'll throw in a fully spec'd up Polo 1.4 TDI 9n2. 65+ mpg and plenty of toys in the later ones. £35 a year road tax as well!

I had a Honda Accord EX ctd once. Nice car. 2.2 derm with 50 mph. The ex model came with everything as standard. Heated leather sunroof sat nav 6 disc radio. etc..

Awesome on the motorway.

I really fancy one of these as well. 10mm spacers plus a healthy slam and I reckon it'd look spot on!

Why do people say Audi A8 it has a 90l tank plus high road tax.

With your limit of car age I've found it impossible to find a diesel that would be respectable (is there such a thing). All the Audis have done too many miles. The only sort of thing that I could find was a Leon FR 170 but the interior is just gastly so couldn't deal with that. The BMWs of that era are also horrible to look at

I would personally get a slightly older Audi or E46 BMW.

Why do people say Audi A8 it has a 90l tank plus high road tax.

Plus you find one thats 4 years old and has done less than 60k and cost less than 8k.

price is about 500 under the going rate for them to be fair

the Vcar website is 100% better than autotrader with a lot more cars,

as was fish 4 cars,

And MOST were lower milage than those on Autotrader.

Slicks shortlist is now like him, Not very short

They do, but from my limited knowledge they are also pretty damm rare. Ive only ever seen one in real life with my own eyes.

A quick look on Auto Trader and I found 3 TDI 4Motions nationwide.

One of my neighbours has a 55 plate 3 door GT TDI 4 motion in grey.  Had it from new, very nice it is to.
