Morning guys,
The missus has a gti 8v. Battery was flat this morning. Gave it a jump but now the car will not idle. Starts ok but as soon as foot comes off accelerator it dies! Any ideas, thanks.

what engine is it?
-
could be the relays or thortle body is dirty
my money is on it being an agg engine
-

Your comments are appreciated rubber, however the other post does not seem the same. My fault is not when car is warm, nor when clutch is depressed. Open your eyes bud
-
yet the solutions are the same. if you did a search you would have found elevnty billion other threads with the same problem and the same old list of things to try ;)
-
Ok cheers mate. I did trawl through the searches, most of them said try the search function!!!!

For a reason.
Because this topic gets covered at least once a day.

dose the oil light flash when it cuts out atall
-
I think it may have done actually!!
-
Did the wheels rotate just before it stalled?
-
dose the oil light flash when it cuts out atall
That's normal though, because the engine looses oil pressure.
Try it, stall the car, you'll see the light flash.
-
has it got petrol in it?????????????
-
Turns out it needed a new battery
Problem solved.
-
good news - sometimes just solving the problem you can see works!

as above, does battery warnign light come on with ignition then go out once started? if not its the blue wire from the alt, follow it from alt across to the single pin plug near the starter
