Title: Mk3 door card Retrim question....help.......
Post by: Seanl on 24 January 2011, 16:05
Ok, so had a look through the search menu and every post that came up but none could answer my questions or gave a guide for the above. Basically, I want to Retrim my door cards but am a bit unsure how to do it. It's a mk3 3dr and I was just gonna Retrim over the top of what's on already. Each end looks like it folds in behind, but top and bottom are sort of sealed under the plastic of the door panel. Has anyone actually achieved doing this, and how? What are the suggestions for securing it properly? Any help would be very welcome. Thanks all!!!

someone did this and it looked stunning and i had to give it to the guy. do a search in cosmetics and it should pop up. i think you can use spray adhesive but make sure that the door car is free of dust or the trim may come off.

yeah I did a search but nobody explained how they did it. Its just the top and bottom parts that look like the plastic moulds are heat pressed onto the fabric and not sure how I could imitate that or get round it.

You will need to remove the original covering first so that the new fabric can adhere to the card itself, I took mine off using a hairdryer and a bit of patients. The original fabric will wick away the adhesive you apply and the material will start to peel off .

Some materials will need a little bit of heat to let it be manipulated, other fabrics can be stretched etc. using a bit of steam.

I was just gonna do the middle, that's why I needed advice cos if I did it all, I could just stitch it all together to cover it. What's draylon?

Had a look around this afternoon for places that sell fabric. There is hardly anywhere down here that do, and what they have is pretty sh!te! I found a couple of maybe's for the sort of fabric, but not the colour I want, Argghhh! (Darkish red by the way). All I could find was brown and beige type colours. Does anyone know anywhere online that might do something suitable, I am a bit dubious of buying online though as I wouldnt be able to guage the true colour without seeing it properly. Also, what about the fabric spray paint? has anyone used it before and does the finish look ok? Cheers
