I mean, I knew I had a lot of play, but surely there is meant to be a round red ball here?
This thing is nowhere near the size it should be
Does any one know the part number for what I need from GSF? Does it clip in with a circlip or something?

that's the relay lever, right?
So I need a relay lever ball?
-
At this stage in the life of the linkage, you are far better off doing a complete overhaul.
I did mine and transformed it to "as new".
Cost of kits are relatively little......check eBay.
Mine wasn't genuine parts but damn decent all the same.
Worst part is removing gear stick down thru tunnel........heatshield off and supposedly centre exhaust section too - but I managed without.

Yeah, I'm doing everything but the ball and socket just now
Just off to GSF to get a new "shift finger" but I'm also suprised that in the bushing kit i got these bushings aren't included:

and finally, these bushing are considerably different sizes.
The one supplied with the kit seems like it won't go over the gear shaft with out a struggle

Yup, that's the very guide I've been working from.
It's a very clear explanation!
What it doesn't explain is how GSF sent me the wrong bushings first time round and why on earth I have a cog in place of a relay lever ball. All sorted now though
-
yeah sorry whats happened there is the bally bit has fallen off the middle toothy bit, common issue. gsf sell the relay shaft but its a crap fit tbh, the slot on the top wouldnt fit the lever! so i pulled the ball off it and fitted to the old lever job done. missinglinkz in the US sells a complete metal link rod kit which is ace, plus he does poly bushes which fit right onto the toothy bit of the relay shaft, recommended bit o kit.
red bush will go in without drilling o rivets, warm it up and grease it then give a damn good poking
-
That main red bush they gave me was wrong- I've got the right orange one now and it fits nice and snug!
F*** yes I see what you mean about the shift finger being a rubbish fit- the lever doesn't fit on the top like yours! Does the ball pull right off and pop right on the old relay shaft? Mine feels like it needs a LOT of force!
I need to get this up and running asap as it's my daily, no time for bits from the US at the moment, but I like that guys site, very informative!
-
yeah this is exactly what i did, will take a bit of effort to pop it off. i took the whole ball off inc the toothy bit. other option is to file the slot down ion the gsf heap of sh!t so it fits properly

Thanks for all your help!
If I was the only guy in the world that had done his shift bushings, I'd tell you what an amazing difference it makes.
But I know you all know
