just a thought, how hard would it be to fit a 100hp 1.4 16v from a polo?
am i right in thinking the 6n polo and mk3 golf have pretty similar underpinnings?
so putting a 16v lump in my golf shouldnt be too hard should it in terms of engine mounts? the wiring and plumming might be a pit of a pain lol
anyone here done that conversion?
thanks guys
oh btw my engine is a 8 valve 1.4 abd, probably 60hp at the best haha so the 100hp 16v would be a noticeable improvement

If it's a small but more modern engine you may as well go for the 1.6 16v from the 6n2 Polo GTI. Mountings are the same as a mk4 Golf I think, so they shouldn't be an issue. Wiring will be comparable to any mk4 engine swap. Don't use the Polo's gearbox as it's rubbish. A guy did this swap into a mk2 and then ran it on ITBs and got some pretty good power out of it.

Might be 100bhp but the amount of work in fitting does not make it worthwhile.
Your would be better to fit a 2.0 from a 8v which is 115bhp or sell up and get something quicker.
Wiring will not be straightforward.

Late GL mk3 5drs are 100bhp 8v

it will drop right in, main worry is the ecu wiring will need a bit of adaptive work. but its not hard to bolt in as it has the std mk2/3 small block mounting points and gearbox. afaik the polo has same fusebox plugs as mk3, so its just some length and routing tweaks
main advantage of this is you get an easy 100bhp without moving out of the cheaper tax bracket

cheers guys, i know about the gearboxes and the timign belts go on them so they both would be changed straight away. think i will actually go ahead with this if i can find a cheap valver, maybe with a smashed rear end or something as a donor car
main advantage of this is you get an easy 100bhp without moving out of the cheaper tax bracket
spot on what i was thinking and its a pretty modern engine so will be a little easier to tune and get a few extra horses out of :P

At the end of the 100bhp is nothing in a mk3, in a Polo it will be loads better as it has less weight to lug around.
By the time you factor in insurance and the cost of the conversion would you not be better to sell up and get something quicker :undecided:
