I am currently looking to get a 5 door diesel, what are the pro's & con's between the different diesel engines, Are there any common problems with the 150 over the 130 or are they both pretty strong engines. Any advice would be good, been looking at a few gt tdi's but many have higher mileages so if I take something on just want to know what big bills I could expect.

Bigger turbo and FMIC on the 150 compared to an SMIC on the 130
150's tend to suffer from cam issues although the same cam was fitted to the 130 but I've only heard of 150 failures
What mileages are you looking at?
Just ensure the service history is up to date with cambelt changes etc. On higher mileage cars listen for any suspension creaks / groans / knocks
Apart from that they all suffer the usual MK4 faults - window clips, door modules, rear wiper motor failure etc
Think Steve_PD 150 is on approx 140K on his original clutch and turbo. His has been mapped for approx 70K I think though sadly he has suffered the camshaft failure  Apart from that he sees 600 miles to a tank

Cheers for the reply, been looking at cars with mileage of around 100k preferably below. l like the look of this,

May now just narrow my sites onto a 130bhp model though, looking forward to getting 600 miles to a tank and lower tax and insurance.

Have you driven either version?
The power comes in earlier on the 130 than the 150 but tails off at the top end. The power on the 150 comes in mid range and holds it right through - its more petrol like in its power delivery
not a bad price on that advert although I hope the rear wiper motor is ok as that isn't parked in the correct position
Go drive a few examples if you can as you'll find varying differences even between the same model. When I bought my 130 nearly 5 years ago the performance varied from car to car so I picked the best one :afro:

Cheers will drive as many as possible, thanks for the advice.

nope long term average is 44mpg. I done 5 trips to and from work last week 46 miles each way plus pottering around town. and when I filled up I had 120 miles to empty.
If I drive slow I get 7 trips to work plus pottering around
