Title: First ever proper detail advice
Post by: paul69 on 23 January 2011, 18:46
Since I bought my car almost a year ago, I have only ever washed it ( 2BM and mitt of course ) and polished it, with AG Bodywork Shampoo and AG SRP. I never bothered with wax as I wanted to wait until I could afford to do everything properly ie:clay, sealant etc.
Now I am ready for the plunge. After extensive research I have drawn up a list of products which I feel would best suit my car but I would appreciate some feedback.
The car is a 1990 Royal Blue Metallic Mk2 Golf.

Shampoo: AG Bodywork Conditioner( I have half a bottle left and as it is PH neutral I think it will do the job)
Clay: Bilt-Hamber Auto-clay ( I have read good things about this and the fact that you don't need lube keeps the cost down)
Polish/Glaze: Poorboys Black Hole (I have run out of SRP and read that this is good for dark metallic cars with hard paint and no clearcote)
Sealant: Jetseal 109 ( I think this speaks for itself)
Wax: Collinite 476 or Dodo Blue Velvet (I haven't decided on this yet. I like the look of Dodo BV but I think the Coli would be better in this weather and maybe Dodo in the summer, as this is my daily and is always outside)

I look forward to your thoughts.

Looks like a good list. I'm not too sure how much the Bilt Hamber clay is but have a look at the Dodo Basics clay, only £8.95 for 2 bars. Other than that you have got yourself a great list and not much I can really add, either wax you have mentioned will be good.

Thanks Chris. As regards the clay, the Bilt Hamber is a bit more expensive, (about £12 delivered I think), and I did look at the Dodo Basics clay but the extra cost of a lube put me off. Unless a friendly supplier offers an incentive to buy everything at one place.

That friendly supplier is starting a nice sale tonight, not to be missed

cannot recomend dodojuice bornslippy enough, and as chris has suggested the basics clay from dodo is very good for the money.

I'm about to do an order with Chris, and I just want to check that I am right in thinking that the Black Hole glaze is alright to use instead of polish on my Mk2 daily.

Yep should be fine. I would add a polish at a later date though

black hole is pretty much pointless unless used on a Machine, would deffo not replace a polish with it but thats just me... other than that sounds good to me
