Title: What are the main points/steps for an engine change?
Post by: The K man on 23 January 2011, 17:51
Was thinking about changing my 1.6 enigne for a 1.8 engine.

What else would i have to change? (I am a rookie looking to learn )

I really appreciate any help you can give me.

Thanks

its a golf mk3 1.6 (97)

i'm getting the exterior and interior how i want it. However i want to go up to a 1.8 soon but i dont want to change cars as i like how my car looks and have put a lot of effort into it.

The gains from a 1.8 are so small you would be better to save up and go for a 16v later.

No?

Noone?

Ok I might as well say it then

Don't bother with a 1.8 engine, it won't be that much different from your current 1.6. You'll end up spending a lot for very little gains.

If you are going to do a conversion, then go down the usual route 16v/VR6/1.8T (yes, even the gti 8v is not worth it!).

Don't bother with a 1.8 8v!

ABF, VR or 1.8 20VT.

Just got to remember, its not just the engine change, you got brakes, suspension and other non-engine related that need uprating when you get more power. Also insurance can cause problems if your of a young age/low NCB.

1.6 is quicker then the 1.8.

Well the MPi is quicker then the SPi.

Well obviously there is the 75 and the 90BHP 1.8. but they are both SPi. 1.6 is far better technology.
