Finally I've dragged the BBSs out of the garage, taken them down to a friend's workshop and bolted them onto the car.
Excuse the black pile of junk someone had just left in the yard, but it just seemed to keep getting itself into the pictures.
Ladies, gentlemen and visitors from other sections , I give you 19'' CKs:

Apologies if the photos are a bit small, they came via my mate's Blackberry and they get all pixelated if I blow 'em up a bit. He's a lot better at photography than me so I just uploaded his photos.

Andy my friend,
Congratulations!
What a beautiful set of Jimmy Choo's. Suit the body to a T.
What make is the rubber?
Now don't sprain an ankle, dear.
Can you not photoshop that Porker and delete it! No don't. The GTI makes the Porker look a real Porker.
Enjoy my PM!
Asker
-
Cheers for the PM Asker, you've been a busy bunny!
The rubber is Falken FK452s (I wondered how long it would be before this was asked!), 225/35/19s. Seems to do the trick of sticking the car to the road thus far in the little mileage I've done with them on there. One thing I will say about them is that they are NOISY. Mind you that should drown out my wife's passenger seat driving wisdom........ :smug:
-
Rims looks sweeeet! Hows the fit, any problems with rubbing on full lock or anything?
-
The wheels look fantasitc Andy..... Very very nice indeed and I'm green wirh envy! Theres a number of wheels types and styles available for the GTi but none suit the car better than a set of BBS. BBS are pricey but you get what you pay for in the end.
Those 19's also fill the wheel arches well as others have pointed out.
Ps Can I have first refusal on them when you get round to changing them again :-)

So far so good Snooze. Only done a limited amount of miles on them, basically from the workshop back home and then popped to a local VW meet this morning and back home. No nasties so far and much of that mileage was done with another set of wheels in the back

Ooooh you rubber fetishist you! You should have been in the car sniffing that rubber earlier on today, mmmmm
The Falkens were already on there when I bought them, and as they're almost new they can stay there. I think a decent set of tyres would be wasted on me with the limited use the car gets.
-
BTW: Forget Martin. You will soon be in my employment, so I'll take them off you when ever I choose to.

He might be, but you are also my b1tch. I own you both.
Careful Martin, Andy and I have ticker tape news feeds!
-
Awesome wheels
I would have paid the seller to keep the Falkens though - worst tyre I've ever had on a car
Wait until they've done about 1500 - 2000 miles and then you'll see just how bad they are :lipsrsealed:

Aww shucks! :embarassed: I'm sure there are plenty nicer looking ones out there though.

Thanks Paul,
The Contis would be better. Had Conti 3s on my mk5. They were good, and quiet.

Great wheels! Exactly what I'd get if I had a load of spare cash.
Better pictures are required though

Yeah the bloody thing kept following my GTI around, I think it wanted to mate with it.
It actually belongs to the company who's workshop I borrowed, which is a lease company. The car can be hired for a weekend if anyone has a few hundred quid burning a hole in their pocket............

Maybe I'll run the Falkens for a while then ebay them whilst they still have decent tread on them. And then I can buy some proper rubber. No wonder this forum costs me so much money!!!

Echo that, love the CH's 19's.
my next set will be theses in black though if they do them?
-
Ta Steve.
They do them in anthracite, silver or that ball polished finish that Maxitrol has.
If I'd have bought a brand new set I'd have gone for anthracite.....probably.....
-
Look great, spot on :afro:
-
Are there any handling issues with increasing size to 19" from 18"?
I'd assume not as the standard wheels on the GTI are 17" but you guys will no doubt know for sure.
Jim

These would look so so so sick on a lowered mk6

Not noticed any issues in the whole 10 miles I've driven on them yet, mostly with another set of wheels rolling around in the back

LOL @ Martin
Those wheels look fine on old skool VWs Caistor but I doubt they'd look right on a mk6. Would love to be proved wrong though.......Look great, spot on :afro:
Thanks Wayne

Thats a great idea! What do you think Exonian?
All was fine till one of the reactors tripped about an hour ago at work! more work coming our way now!
-
They look bloody lovely. I tried to get the ball polished CKs for mine but the company only had 3 in stock so I went with CH Black Editions.
What offset and width are the CKs?

Anthracite ones would go great against your white paint Kenny.

I love your Black Editions.
The CKs are 8x19 ET44, so probably the same as yours.

I know, got pics on my laptop with a White GTI wearing them! Hot wheels! I am always browsing the net for them, did you buy yours 2nd hand or new???

Second hand, I'd been searching for a set for ages on every forum known to man, found a set just listed and dived in very quickly. I did consider buying a brand new set too, would probably have gone for 18s if I'd bought them new.
-
Would ya believe it, managed to kerb the two nearside rims within 300 miles of fitting them.
35 profile rubber and Cornish granite kerbstones don't mix!
Was down in Cornwall on Monday visiting family, had to go up a big narrow hill and gently brushed a bit of kerb that was actually dropped and looked almost flush with the road. Nope, gashed two of the rims.
Pointless getting them refurbed as it will only happen again sooner or later. Will need to get hold of some touch up paint that's a close match to the BBS silver (easier said than done as I've had many sets of BBS wheels over the years and they have a unique silver colour).
I don't have any spare wheels to fit to the car now in order to get the rims refurbed anyway, seriously considering going back to 18s.
Muchos gutted.
-
So sorry to hear this. A sickening feeling. Do your tyres have decent rim protection?
Anything more than 18" rims is simply not practical, I am afraid.
-
225 tyres on an 8 inch rim don't offer much protection Asker, not when the rim sits so close to the ground. I don't think 18 inch wheels would have fared any better unless they had either 235 tyres or were narrower in width. Rubber rim protectors (oooer Missus) only do so much protecting, and they wouldn't have stopped this. The tyre gives but the rim doesn't.
That horrible scraping noise still haunts me!!!! I'm so anal about being careful with my wheels too.

Getting dark, wheels dirty, camera sh!te, batteries on way out, me depressed, you get the idea.....
-
Ouch
235's provide quite a bit more protection on 8x19's
(http://i954.photobucket.com/albums/ae23/rforum/P1010750.jpg)

Ouch I feel ya pain. Bloody kerbs.
I'm gonna be putting new rubber on my monza shadows soon and my black monza wheels will be gathering dust in the garage until next winter. If you want a temp spare set while you get you ck's refurbed your welcome to borrow the black monza wheels.

Thanks for the photo Mac, I had 235s on my previous 18s but they stuck out a little proud at the front, so were even more vulnerable in some ways. I think you can get away with 235s on an offset of around 50mm but the 44mm of the BBSs is close to the 41mm of the Interlagos, so will sit proud of the front arch.
If I had to drive up that bloody hill more than a couple of times a year I'd get a Skoda Yeti!!!
Maybe I need a nice R like yours that comes with pre-fitted 235s, xenons and that nice blue colour!!!

-
^Isn't the width of the wheel/tyre on the R the reason they fit that little extra lip to the arch? to get round the law!
-
Bad times
-
Should cost £50-£70 to sort out by a local car body mobile.
I had one of my mk5 wheels done for around £50 - couldn't tell the difference afterwards.
-
Update time.
I dropped the wheels in to my local refurbishers SWWR (http://www.southwestwheelrepairs.com/), who have done a few wheels for me in the past, on Monday.
Bought a set of second hand Conti 3s in 235 35 19 flavour over the weekend.
Picked the car up Thursday and SWWR have done a great job again. The wheels look like new and they all have another couple of mm protection now.
The 225 35 Falkens will be heading for ebay in the near future.
-
Andy, great news that your BBS beauties are fixed and now shod with the excellent ContiSport 3 tyres. They are a great drive.
