To all those who are saying it's cr4p, what exactly are you expecting? I quite enjoyed it - it was a bit of fun with a couple of really nice cars, and a fairly amusing piece about a half decent all rounder. Clarkson, Hammond and May work to a pattern. Changing the pattern is a big gamble and might result in the show being cancelled, which will happen in time but it is still very popular.

I would like to know what all you naysayers expect them to do with the budget they have. Suggestions?

It is now time to kill it off for good, its run its course, its been great over the years, there is no longer any surprise element, or novelty, they are only interested in Supercars! Star in a car was someone I'd never heard of, why not get someone that has some sort of interest in cars at least, and a proper interview! total crap! "Christmas specials" only please

Youtube was invented for looking at fast cars being thrashed about and abused, Top Gear is an hour of old(er) blokes pissing around and getting paid for it.

I think the haters are just jealous that Richard Hammond used to be on the same channel as Jo Guest, and look at him now.

Oh and the BBC licence fee is for Chris Moyles' ego to be transported around by Eddie Stobart and his lunchbox!

I quite liked this weeks episode. Nice tongue in cheek feature on the Yeti, seems a damn good car. Porsche bit I was hoping would be like the Lancia piece they did a while ago which was a shame, wasted chance to show all those porkers in action. Atom bit was cool, never really been a fan of star in the car. I liked TIff being in it, hope he makes more appearances.

Only another 5 episodes to go though.

This is the second episode since the stig went that Tiff has had involvement with isn't it? Missus bumped into him a few times at Brands for the BTCC final not even knowing who he was

How can you not have heard of John Bishop. He is really rather funny - well as comedy is subjective, I and quite a few people I know find him funny.

He's been on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo, etc and etc.

I enjoyed it and no doubt will watch it repeatedly on dave for the next few years to come. Top gear lets be honest is an entertainent show not a car show and if we take it as that it's a laugh and I am sure even the haters out there had the odd chuckle while watching the show and after all if you are made to laugh watching something is that not money well spent?

No, never herd of John Bishop, I've seen Mock the Week quite a few times, but never seen the legend that is John Bishop on it, and live at the Apollo, is that that show full of 2nd rate so called comedians? I suspect he was only on TG because the BBC will be trying to push something with him in, over the next few weeks!

I think that TG is good, but has backed itself into a corner, as presenters, I still enjoy all three of them, I just find the concept of the show, is now dull and boring, and they need to move onto something fresh

love top gear, dissapointed with the australia thing, been on the net for about six months as a full hour and 20 min program, hope we actually get 6 new programs this time, last series was 3 new ones and then "best of top gear" comps, which was a bit of a rip off.
gets more and more scripted and set up, but the production values are amazing.
is still pretty much the only non sport based bloke program on tv, other than anything with boobs of course.

More real life reviews, and relevant to the average punter.

Instead of supercars that the normal man/woman will never be able to afford, or blowing sh!t up, as they can't think of anything else to do.

As per everyone else, Top gear is getting tired now.

Title: Mexico's ambassador Complained about the Right Wing BBC programme
Post by: VR6Lee on 01 February 2011, 22:24
Quote
Mexico's ambassador in London has complained to the BBC over "offensive, xenophobic and humiliating" comments made about his country on Top Gear.

Eduardo Medina Mora has written to the BBC about "insults" made by Richard Hammond, Jeremy Clarkson and James May.
Discussing a Mexican sports car, Hammond said vehicles reflected national characteristics so "Mexican cars are just going to be lazy".
The BBC did not comment but said it would respond directly to Mr Mora.
Reviewing the Mastretta on Sunday's show, Hammond said: "Mexican cars are just going to be lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat."

The presenters, known for their edgy jibes, then described Mexican food as "refried sick".
Clarkson said he was confident he would not receive any complaints about their comments because the Mexican ambassador would be asleep.
However, the ambassador did complain, and demanded an apology from the BBC.

"The presenters of the programme resorted to outrageous, vulgar and inexcusable insults to stir bigoted feelings against the Mexican people, their culture, as well as their official representative in the United Kingdom," he wrote.

"These offensive, xenophobic and humiliating remarks only serve to reinforce negative stereotypes and perpetuate prejudice against Mexico and its people."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-12338053

I thought it was exceptionally xenophobic and wasn't even in the stlye of good natured banter like our forum
I thought it was pretty awful behaviour for one of the BBC's flagship programmes.

I think it's ridiculous when people claim to be offended when something relates to them, yet will happily enjoy something that is offensive to others.

My friend has a theory that people are rarely actually offended, just like to excercise their right to be offended and he's definately onto something.  Australia was the butt of many many jokes in that particular episode, as I bet the British will be in the Australian version of the show but I couldn't care less.

Do you really think that the Mexican people could care less about what was said?  I have a Mexican friend who thought it was hilarious.  People need to chill out, of course it wasn't xenophobic, it was a joke...

Title: Re: Top Gear restarts Tonight
Post by: dragonfly on 12 July 2011, 09:11
There does seem to be more favourable reviews towards the Ferrari.  But don't forget Ferrari are not happy if you give their cars bad reviews and have been known not supply cars in the future if you do.

The handling on the Mecca certainly is more controlled and inspires confidence in the driver, whereas the Ferrari is tailhappy when pushed.

Title: Re: Top Gear restarts Tonight
Post by: bobotheclown on 12 July 2011, 09:35
exactly. Also the Ferrari's tend to burst into flames due to the glue they were using.

I think that Mclaren have the right attitude when creating a car. Use all the methods they have discovered through motorsport and apply them to making a road car. From what I can gather watching TG the MP4/12C is using active suspension that was pioneered by Williams back in 1991. That's 20 year old technology from F1 trickling down to production road cars.

I don't get the whole fascination with the Ferrari "emoton" and crap like that. If a car looks good, drives well and doesn't spontaneously combust in a fireball then it doesn't matter what badge is stuck on it, it's a good car.
