Having just got my 1991 16v (1 owner from new !) I have got a couple of quick questions
Seats
When I go round roundabouts or corner with a bit of enthusiasm my seat really 'wobbles' and feels as though it is not as secure in the runners as it should be. Is there anything I can do about this - is it a common problem or have I not adjusted it properly
Speakers
I seem to have some nice tweeters squeeking away under covers on top of the dash that I would like to replace with some infinitys that I have from a previous car - is it easy or a pain in the arse - any tips anywhere
Oh and my boot does not work with the central locking - is that a 'feature' or is it knackered
Finally - are there any Independant VW specialists in the Wiltshire / Berks / Oxford area ?
Cheers

Seats..........they have white plastic 'feet' that fit on the seat and into the runners. They are prone to breaking causing the whole seat to be loose in the runners.

Anybody know where I can get replacement 'white plastic feet' to hold my seats in their runners ?

I got mine from the local VW dealer. About ?2.
Speakers are an arse to fit larger ones without removing your dash. I picked up some new alpine ones that pop straight in for ?40 I think and they work a treat. Audioscape make proper door mounted for 17cm speakers, but they'll take ?100 off you to have them.
take off the plastic cover on the inside of your tailgate. if there's a pump in there then your C/l is playing up. if there isn't then the c/l isn't fitting in your boot. if you have the lame vacume system that goes round the car locking the doors after you've turned the key there could be a leak in one of the tunes stopping the boot locking.
www.yell.com for dealers :p
hope that helps.

Thanks for your help

With ref to the boot locking mechanism. I've had this a couple of times now - take off the protective panel on the hatchback and let the door swing up so that you can see the operating mechanism. You will see the arm/piston which pushes/pulls the locking pin clear of the barrell of the lock. Undo the screws holding in the pump/ram mech and if I remember correctly use pair of long nose pliers to detach the 'arm' from the pump. Note, do this carefully since I think this is held in with a circlip and you don't want to lose it. You'll probably find now that parts of the mechanism are very stiff or even seized - free them up and lubricate well before re-assembling in reverse order. Sorry to be a bit vague - study the mechanism when the hatchback door is fully up - it's not a difficult job. Kind regards, yt.

On my last Mk2 the boot would't open all the time. I took the black plastic cover off the inside of the boot lid and found that the plastic cam (White or grey plastic i think?) which is attached to the lock barrel had the retaining clip missing, thus the cam was loose and the boot wouldn't open and probably meant the boot was open when I thought it was locked!!
Also the central locking pumps play up but are cheap from a acrappy.
cheers

The locking problems on the boot are an age old problem, mine was even easier, the little clip that holds the actuating arm from the blue vacuum pump in the boot to the lock had come unclipped, so when operated the arm was bending up not sliding. Clipped it back on and its worked ever since.

Just had my infinity kappa 50.cs fitted to my mk2 valve.
Fit nice in the door pods - tweeter go where the window winders go - looks factory fit (almost)
;D
