Hi i have a 1999 golf 2.0 gti when accelerating the car seems to judder, its hesitant to accelerate then all of a sudden it goes ok. its particularly bad between 2000 and 3000 revs in low gears. someone told me its misfiring but am no mechanic and to be honest dont have a clue. ive tried disconnecting the MAF but its just the same. The cars just had its 60000 mile service.
Thanks
-
check the spark plugs, and the leads
-
cheers will do. i bought some new plugs and leads but they look very awkward to change, is this something best left for a garage?
-
plugs are easy, take around 5 mins
-
when my maf was playing up it would cough n splutter and sometimes judder, even when i disconnected it, it still ran like sh*te.
I had a new maf and plugs fitted and the difference was unreal after that!!
-
Thanks for all your help gonna try changin the plugs tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed ha ha
-
Hang on if its just had its service it should already have new plugs????
-
i thought that at first but in my haynes book if i remember right it says they get changed at 40000 and 80000, might be wrong tho ill double check when i get home
-
I thought they got changed on every service? :undecided:
-
oh it could be the MAF then, roughly how much do they cost please
-
The plugs should be changed every 10,000 miles or every year, but they can last upto 40,000 miles if driven normally
-
got mine from the dealer for about ?78
-
Thanks for all your help, changed the plugs and leads and the car seems to be ok now touch wood, one of the plugs was turning white at the end, dont know if this was the problem.
-
White? isnt that not enough fuel???
-
It was only one of them, it said in the haynes book this could mean a plug running too hot or to cold cant remember which one.
