I have successfully replaced an RCD510 with an RNS510 and also one VW Premium Bluetooth module with a newer one, but am getting some pesky and persistent fault codes! Even after clearing them, they come back. There were more while I was installing, but those have now gone.
It is plausible that a couple of these are down to the fact that I do not have the updated cable from the Bluetooth to the head unit for the stereo A2DP channels. It's the Bluetooth complaining about coding that is perplexing me!

If anyone can help me, then I would feel happier. I want to see no fault codes - then I know that I've not got anything wrong!!
Finally, the time is wrong somewhere - how to I update it from 2008.14.31 to the right date!
-
On the telephone coding you need to set the baseplate to inactive. The control module not coded will clear after this is set.
The output audio chanel one is because your loom is not wired for left and right.
The RNS error is because you have voice control enabled and don't have the mic routed via the RNS (again as issue in using the original factory loom).
-
Thanks SteveP.
Just to be clear, the original kit was the RCD510 and the Bluetooth Premium, with the voice control and the buttons in the roof. I have switched the RCD for the RNS and the Bluetooth modules.
As it is currently set up, the buttons on the roof work, as do the voice control on the steering and the RNS itself.
What will happen if I change the baseplate setting on the Bluetooth? And should I somehow disable the voice control on the RNS? Sorry for moronic questions!
-
The baseplate setting is for cars with an additional telephone handset in the car (like the phaeton).
On the RNS coding disable microphone diagnostics.
-
You are good Steve, I have a couple if those faults on mine and wondered what they where! The mic open and Negative output.
Can I correct the this loom issue for the negative speaker output fault?
-
I have managed to stop some of the alerts, thank you, but I don't seem to have the option telling the Telephone that there is no base plate.
Maybe it is because my module is too new for VAG-COM, but these are all the options I have in Long Coding. No options at all.

I must get the wiring sorted for the Bluetooth stereo audio ....
-
Please let me know if you fix this stereo funition
-
To turn off the base plate diag you need to set byte 4 to 01.
-
Sorted. Thank you. I expect a VAG-COM update will populate the coding helper.
@SteveP: was there a similar module you used to check this against?
-
Yes I created a custom file based on the 3C8 Bluetooth module for coding the 5N0.
-
Great idea. I'll do the same!
How do these things filter back to RossTech? Is there any info I can give them, do you think?
-
I have just installed a late edition VW Bluetooth module but i keep getting an open circuit fault on the microphone.
Can i use the voice commands with a RCD510?
When i push the mic button on steering wheel it asks for the command but nothing happens when i say command.
Hope you can give advice thanks
-
Darren had the same problem when installing mine, some thing to do with joining the mic cable instead of it going into the connector block as the loom was for an RNS, he made a loom up for me bless him and fitted it for me. sorry it's a bit vague because i have no clue about these things.
Send Darren (mortygt140) a pm and he'll sort you out.
Does the mic work at all when making calls? mine didn't.
-
Jimble thanks for reply.
I have sorted it, i had it plugged in the wrong place.
-
Ha, great stuff mate glad it's sorted, great piece of kit!

Hello SteveP and other members, I really hope you can assist me, I have a 08/2008 Golf mk5 with factory fitted:
RNS510
DSG
Multifunction steering wheel and paddles for the DSG
Telepephone cradle AND
Bluetooth module (basic version: 1K8 035 730) which I have upgraded to the same unit as mentioned here in this thread Premium: 5N0 035 730 D.
I have only upgraded the Bluetooth unit as I understand that is what is needed (?)
I get the below fault codes in VCDS and I cannot set the car / Bluetooth unit into pairing mode (though the RNS 510 has seen the BT unit as PHONE menu now shows "SOS" and no phone connected).
I've searched for days for how to code Golf mk5 with this new BT unit and RNS510 but to no avail (I find a guide to soft coding but my VCDS only allows me to do "long coding").

That module won't work in a Mk5 as you need a White high line display to be able to pair the phones to it.

Thank you so much for such a quick reply!!!
Wow - what a poor purchase I made then  Are you 100% sure it wont work with mk5?
If I can't make it work, what module would I need to get premium Bluetooth with my RNS510 and iPhone 4?
Many thanks and I guess a "5N0 035 730 D" is on eBay soon...

Hi
If this unit works with the iPhone 4 I'd bs interested at the right price ;)
PM if you wish. Adrian

Hi Adrian, I can't PM you as your email is hidden and I don't see how to PM you? Could you perhaps pm me?
PS: Yes this unit works with iPhone 4 ( a mate of mine bought the exact same unit for his mk6 GTI and works with his iPhone 4) apparently it is not compatible with my mk5...
Thanks

I agree this forum is the best!
I was told my BT module was not compatible with my Golf mk5 "5N0 035 730 D" is this really true? If so who knows what I would need for my mk5 so it is Premium and compatible with my iPhone 4? Or, alternatively a webpage where I research this to avoid making a mistake again?
Thanks

The only OEM one that is compatible with the iPhone 4, Red DIS and RNS-510 on the Mk5 is the 1Z0 035 729 B kit.

I'd drop SteveP a PM and see if he can advise, his knowledge across the MK5 & MK6 is superb.
Speak of the devil, see Steves post that crossed mine!
Good luck,
Jim

Thank you very much SteveP!!!
Would you also happen to know if I need to change any of my wiring? I already have the complete VW Basic version: 1K8 035 730 installed with microphone etc?
Many thanks!

Guys
I've seen this on the Bay for less than £100 delivered - presume it is the right one for my iPhone4

and just need the cables - will these do the jobvfor around £50 delivered?

I've asked Darren for prices to see if he can get cheaper - either way, if the above are the correct items this'll be my next mod!
Thanks
Adrian
-
Thats a very very good price
-
Cheers Steve - I though it was good too
I'm going to order it tonight if Darren's price isn't better but I think at that price it'll be a struggle.
Darren already coded the car for BT on Saturday when he sorted my stereo and a few other bits so should be plug'n play (crosses fingers)
Adrian
-
Now ordered the BT unit as it was ending and couldn't let it go.
Just need a wiring kit now...
-
Hello - I need the following unit "1Z0 035 729 B" for my Golf mk5, can anyone please suggest where to buy it at the best price? I've seen it including wires (which I don't need) on eBay for app £300 but I was hoping for a better price (and don't need the cables).
Any help much appreciated!
Thanks!
-
Christopher
Try eBay.de. There are lots on there. May be the one you need?
Try a seller called ukmegaseller he had lots of different models of the control unit

Hello, I thought that I would report back.
I have now installed "1Z0 035 729 B" big thanks to Steve P for the advice!
I coded the unit to 0000422 and so the MFD menu appeared (the unit came with coding 0000000).
However, now my VW phone cradle stops charging my phone after the Bluetooth connection has been established - how weird is that? Where does the power for the cradle come from, does it run through the "1Z0 035 729 B" ?
Is this a common issue? Can I code something with VCDS so it starts charging again?
Car: 08/2008 Golf mk5 RNS 510 with factory fitted phone cradle and now upgraded BT unit to "1Z0 035 729 B".
Any advice is much appreciated! I have google a lot the last days and now found any mentioning of this issue.
PS: When pairing he "1Z0 035 729 B" is called Skoda something, is it really compatible with my Golf mkv?
-
^^^ Yes it compatible but as far as I am aware it's not designed for use with the cradle but could be wrong.
-
Hi SteveP and MANY thanks for your quick reply!
Is there a way I can verify that the "1Z0 035 729 B" is not compatible with a phone cradle? Is there a web link I can read about the compatibility or manufacturer description of the unit?
PS: I found it very odd that the phone charges and once the BT connection has been made it stops charging... It sounds like it should be able to charge but perhaps a VCDS coding issue? Is there any Adaption coding for the "1Z0 035 729 B"? Or is there coding to be made with the phone cradle?
-
Have a look a my-gti.com, this is may have some info on it about the 729b and cradles.
-
On the telephone coding you need to set the baseplate to inactive. The control module not coded will clear after this is set.....
Hi Steve,
Hello there,
I have a problem coding my new 5N0 035 730 D bluetooth console.
To describe my problem:
I have a vw Passat 3C from 2008. I have the Premium UHV bluetooth phone connection, with MF steering wheel, keyboard for phone, buttons in the upper head console for service and info...
Under the passenger seat I had in the past the 5N0 035 730 bluetooth module, only rSAP compatible. Now I bought myself the new 5N0 035 730 D module which is HFP compatible too.
To make it work I need the new coding for the new 5N0 035 730 D otherwise is useless, I have tried all the combinations that I found on the internet and I am really desperate now.

Your old unit only worked in mono on one speaker works..You will need to run 2 wires from the BT unit to the RNS quadlock so you can then get it running with both left and right channels.
