I think Danno should check that his carpets are dry.

They are dry...and I'm quite careful not to get the car wet with shoes, or leaving the door open in the rain. Am I the only one who gets this???

The Danno:
Could it be your climate control is at fault?
Are you using the climate control?
Are you using the climate control on Auto with the 2nd 'Auto' button engaged which provides more ventilation?
Is the car 'always' steamed-up?
Very strange that nobody else seems to have this unusual problem.
Hope it gets sorted.

Doesn't happen that often. Only when I've left the car all day in winter, sometimes I'll come back to find it's got condensation on the inside of the front screen. It's quite bad, almost water droplets. Fan won't clear it for about 10 mins, best to cloth it off. Doesnt happen when it's running and fans have cleared it.

Oh and ps, I never have it on auto recirculate, as I don't trust it to kick in at the right time, and I don't want recycled air!!! Unless I'm behind a bus, or at GTD

Have you got your AC on the climatronic set to on [LED lit in button]? It can be turned off, maybe that's the problem.

No. Thanks anyway. Its only when I come back to my car after work in the evenings mainly. Just going to have to live with it

Turn the AC on when you drive in cold weather as it helps remove the moisture from the air.
I don't usually use the AC, but have been using it since my windows went down themselves one night when it was snowing!
I've also got a little tupperware pot full of silica crystals I leave on my dash when the car is parked up to help suck up the excess moisture and save my windscreen misting / icing up.

Unless you are getting a lot of water into the car somehow, the reason it's misting up is the AC not being on. The AC dries the air coming into the car. If you leave this on you will eventually eliminate the problem.

Good glass polish on the inside also helps.

My ac is always on. Perhaps it's cause I do really short 1 mile trips to the station which doesn't allow enough time fOr the ac to de humidify the air, or perhaps because my drivers side door is slightly out of alignment. A common R problem I believe.....?

My windows steam up if i've had the ac on on a wet day to clear them then switch it off, if that makes sense? I wonder if it's something like that?

Silica crystals sounds like a good idea, where do you get them from?

I wonder if the heavy misting is because he is hot after exercise/rushing. Some people have naturally warm moist bodies (there was no better way of putting this). It used to happen to me after exercise due to being hot and sweaty.

Jimble: Just don't pounce on this one, please.

I was getting very misty however I didint tend to use the auto setting or aircon. I've certainly noticed a difference since I left the aircon on. I do find that having the climate controls on for a few mins before setting off usually de-mists the car perfectly, be patient young luke!

Got back off train tonight and thought I just needed to scrape ice on outside of screen. But turned out I was completely soaked up on the inside and it took a good 5 mins plus to start getting warm air to clear (was also much faster on passenger side than drivers !).

Was probably the worst I've had in any car and not helped that car was facing west into full sun as it went down which always seems to make it worse. Not sure if there's any cure as such, just need to try and keep as dry as poss and keep AC on to get drier air into car.

That sounds like you have a wet carpet, boot floor or wet something somewere.
My Daihatsu winter runabout has a damaged drivers door(I bent it :embarassed:) that lets water in as it no longer seals and i have to do the same as you but i know my carpet gets slightly damp which causes it.

I agree with Snoopy. My other car is the dog car - wet dog and family in and out and the inside always steams up but not in the golf. I have rubber mats which stay wet and the dog bed takes an age to dry properly (and yes it does smell!). Both kept in same driveway (so same weather conditions) and driven with A/C most of the time.

The exact same for me.  My windows always mist up on the inside if I have used the air con on my previous run out. Which inevitably means I have to use it again to remove the mist and it just seems to be a vicious circle. If I don't use it though the windows seem to stay mist free.

I remember reading the reason for this in the past but as usual can't find it when looking for it.

The Danno

Get your climate control checked.
But before you do, do you leave all the air vents open all of the time? Leaving them fully open should help. Just a thought.

Humidity level differences between inside and outside?

AC only works above 5 degrees doesn't it? so anything lower and its not working and not sucking the moisture out?  :undecided:

+1!!!!!!!

Exactly the same for me. The drivers door doesn't quite sit in line. Slightly proud at the top, but not bad enough to let the rain in... Common prob apparently. Deffo passenger side clears first!!!
