The bore of the pipe exiting the cat is 50mm on both 8v and 16v so as long as you get it from the cat back it will fit fine.

It is also worth noting that the bore of the pipe increase to 55mm on the 16v between the cat and middle silencer so the 16v backbox alone will not fit an 8v

just buy the 16v connector pipe (between cat and downpipe) and you can then fit the 16v/vr system

He doesn't even need to do that, i'm assuming that's his P reg gti in his sig? Same year as mine and a 16v system fitted on mine from cat back with no problems at all. The bore of the exit pipe from the cat is the same on the later 8v as it is on the 16v/VR6, so unless he's fitting a decat he won't need to change anything.

yeah the 8v/16v cat is the same bore, its from the rear silencer back the 8v goes down to 50mm. i think though theres a difference in cat length depending on age of car, so this is something to bear in mind
