Title: STARTING PROBLEMS!
Post by: vw-john on 18 January 2011, 18:59
I have a 1.8 gl. 1992
started perfect for the 2 years i have owned it. but recently when starting, the starter motor ticks over for 5+ seconds and when the engine starts unless the gas pedal is pushed it will stall as soon as the key is released. this problem goes away when the car has been warmed up slightly.
can anyone suggest anything?
cheers

i woudl suggest either the ecu temp sensor or maybe the lambda. assuming you have done the obvious checks such as new plugs, leads plus dizzy cap and arm ;)

have a look around for vacuum leaks, in particular the rubber flange between the  spi unit and the inlet. also try cleaning out the throttle body
