Title: VAGCOM Faults (Lambda) Advice Please
Post by: bmouthboyo on 18 January 2011, 14:44
Hi all,

I purchased a VAGCOM connector from ebay the other day http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200512414038&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200512414038&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)

which works fine with the lite version of VCDS privided with it www.directdownload.bz/VAG_VCDS.zip (http://www.directdownload.bz/VAG_VCDS.zip) but not on the VAGCOM 5.041 that I managed to source. It just says "interface not found", so for now I have to use the free basic version which doesn't seem to show all the fault codes. (Help would be much appreciated)

Anyway the results:

Chassis Type: 1H - VW Golf/Vento III
Scan: 01,02,03,08,12,15,25,41,56

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 01: Engine       Labels: 037-906-025-ADY.LBL
   Controller: 037 906 025 R
   Component: SIMOS 4S           2104
   Coding: 00000
   Shop #: WSC 99999
1 Fault Found:
00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation
            18-10 - Upper Limit - Intermittent
Readiness: N/A

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 03: ABS Brakes       Labels: 3A0-907-379.LBL
   Controller: 3A0 907 379
Component: ABS     ITTAE 20 GI V00
   Coding: 03604
   Shop #: WSC 00000
2 Faults Found:
00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor; Rear Right (G44)
            35-00 - -
00287 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
            16-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

Can anyone advise on the error for the Lambda sensor? I have noticed not great MPG but within reason for a Gti with high mileage (168000).

Now where I am at a bit of a loss with this lite version is it seems there are 2 faults for the ABS system which tallies with the ABS light on, however it only shows 1.

Anything else I am missing there? Advice with errors and / or sourcing a VAGCOM version compatible with my hardware would be a godsend.

Thank you

i pm'd you a link for a full version of vagcom. hopefully it will work with the version you have!!! in regards to the lambda sensor i would just change it anyway - especially with high mileage like you have, its probably never been done. I done mine last year and it made a big difference to the general running of the car.

in regards to the abs fault. i would suspect that it is just the one fault, which would be the sensor you have listed. Generally on the mk3 if you have a multiple abs fault your hand brake light will stay on whilst driving. change the sensor then run another scan!!

hope that helps mate

Big G thank you for your help, I have just come back on with my new results. Funnily enough the link you sent is the one I just got working, with a little playing around with bat files etc, I originally went for a newer one but must not have been compatible. Sound of you to help though mate

Complete Results:

Chassis Type: 1H - VW G/J/V Mk3
Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,25,56

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 01: Engine
   Controller: 037 906 025 R
   Component: SIMOS 4S           2104
   Coding: 00000
   Shop #: WSC 99999
1 Fault Found:
00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation
            18-10 - Upper Limit - Intermittent
Readiness: N/A

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 03: ABS Brakes
   Controller: 3A0 907 379
Component: ABS     ITTAE 20 GI V00
   Coding: 03604
   Shop #: WSC 00000
2 Faults Found:
00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Right (G44)
            35-00 - -
00287 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Rear Right (G44)
            16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications - Intermittent

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I then used the measuring blocks function and took it for a little drive and the Rear Right speed did not change so fairly certain its the sensor :)

As for the Lambda is it worth going for a expensive part like NTK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370391207921&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370391207921&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT) given the mileage of my motor? or would a cheaper on suffice?

Could anyone tell me anymore about the Lambda fault from the data? or is it just a case of its not working right replace?

Also it sounds silly but is Rear Right the OSR ? i.e the rear wheel behind the driver seat?

your welcome buddy!!

here the thread i had for my lambda - there some info and a link about lambda's in general if your looking for some bedtime reading!!

http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=155537.0

to be honest just change it. i went to the Eurocarparts in poole. cost about £55 for a bosch one - easy to change hardest part was unscrewing it as its in a bit of a balls ache position.

the abs sensor would be the one on the drivers side - best to change that too!!

Did it just plug in? or did you have to cut and splice to fit?

Also how easy was your sensor to remove? Did you heat it up?

Thanks

they come as four bare wires so i just crimped them on then used heat shrink over the top - should be good for at least another 160000 miles.

in regards to heating it up. i just drove it around for half an hour then it came out without too much trouble and some burnt fingers!!!

or just buy the correct bosch one, and just unplug it, change it and plug the new one in.

Any idea of best price I can get bosch one from? Not sure if it's worth getting BQ parts when car is nearing end of its life?

Also does that VAG COM fault for the ABS inform whether I need to replace the Sensor or the ring?

It may help knowing that the ABS light came on about a year ago, at first intermittently but in the past 5 months permanently. So possible indication of wear?

Cheers

>Any idea of best price I can get bosch one from?
no - shop arround.

>Also does that VAG COM fault for the ABS inform whether I need to replace the Sensor or the ring?
I'd do the sensor first personally.
