Clutch seems about right for garage prices but Im sure you could get it cheaper if you shopped around. Dont know about the coolant pump but the wheel bearing and servicing seem way overpriced! Are you getting a cambelt change included in the service? Cant you do any of the jobs yourself?

I ended up finding a guy that works for cash in hand and he did my clutch, some gaskets, gearbox oil change and new brake discs and pads for about £250.

Hey thanks for the replys,

Tbh im ex Army didnt really fiddle with cars love em to pieces but unfortunately all y knowledge is theory.

Yeah the service has the tooth belt change on it too but i did think that the service and the wheel bearing were a bit over priced

due to the fact is i relies on my golf to get to work and i cant get there any other way and that garage that quoted me are conviently situated next door but im going to shop around do some bartering going to try G-Werks tommorow

also im after a de badged grill and some black morretts and a decent lowering spring kit any recommendations???

can recommend G-werks mate. Got a load of work done last week and they are very reasonable for their garage work.

I drive from Brighton especially to go there which should tell you something. Also you know that your car is in the hands of VW nutters which always helps!!

GSF Parts prices

Wheel Bearing Kit £12.45+VAT
Clutch Kit £60+VAT
Water Pump £27.50+VAT
Servicing Items
Spark Plugs (x4) £2.70 Each + VAT
Dizzy Cap £5.60+VAT
Rotor Arm £4.25+VAT
Oil ~£25
Leads £28.50+VAT
Air Filter £7.25+VAT
Coolant ~£20
Parts: £232.62 Inc VAT

Your costs Inc Labour and VAT is £843.96 so in effect you are paying £611.34 In Labour and at £50 per hour inc vat (seems to be the going rate I think for independents) Thats 12 hours work???

This is all on the basis you are not having the Cambelt changed.

he said hes having the quote 'toothed belt' changed so can only be the cambelt as the alt is usually ribbed, if 180 includes cambelt for the service it aint a bad price as long as hes changing the tensioner as well, tbh you should pay £250 for the clutch at any backstreet garage £380 seems far too much! most places charge £45 an hour unless its main dealers if i was you id look around definatly worth it just ring a couple of places up,
