Title: Back on the road!! - UPDATE WITH PICS!!
Post by: simon20vt on 17 January 2011, 14:09
After 4 weeks being off the road since i sold my AUM, i'm now back on the road with a new MK4 1.8T. A big thank you to Jord (Purely VAG) for the sale of his car with KO4 kit. See the for sale section for pics. The car is now back on standard bumpers. Will put up some pictures when i get round to it. Car is currently on 15" A3 wheels, but will be putting RS6 reps from my old car back on when I can. May swap those after a while though. Loved the drive home from York to Birmingham, really does put a smile on your face, and not as bad on fuel as i thought it would be!! Overall, a good, and quick car! Will post pics if i ever change anything, or add anything in, e.g boost gauges.

Cheers!!

yeah mate, just had it raised up because it was on 15" before, and scraping anything on the underside, even just a minor bump in the road caused havoc!! lol, subframe by front wheels looks a bit of a mess

Thanks, i love the wheels too  thats why i kept them from my last one incase i had another!

As above, not sure how much its lowered by - i've actually had it raised because it was on 15" A3 wheels and completely slammed to the deck.. had the same wheels on my last MK4 but on standard suspension, so i could guess at about 50/60mm from standard? not sure, i'm tempted to lower it a little more though

Looking very nice mate. I'm planning on getting some BBS CH's or RS6's on mine and those pics have just swayed me towards the RS6's. Have you thought about colour coding your valances?

sorry mate, 18"s are plenty big enough for me, cheers for the offer. good luck with the sale buddy! get some pics up with your new wheels on

I do love the RS6's, they are nice wheels! Only reason i might end up changing mine in the future is because of size and weight reduction. Yes, that's one thing that i missed off the shopping list lol, i do want to colour code the front and rear valances in the future, but its probably last on my "to do" list, definately going to get the set up running to its potential power wise first, then throw some guages in so i can keep an eye on whats going on with boost pressure etc, then i can worry about cosmetics and looks.

What do you think about getting window tints? I'm unsure about them on silver cars, and think they look alot better on darker cars. Did all mk4 gti's have heated mirrors as standard aswell? I'm not sure whether mine didn't have them, or they're just not working?

just get a light smoke tint allround the the old bill wont hassle you but you wont be on show like the pope in a clear glass box.   i have a quite dark tint on my audi Q7 s line and that is silver, go for tints but not to dark on golf.

What power are you getting from your K04?

my bad they were only 16's just looked tiny lol

What power are you getting from your K04?

at the moment, i havent a clue to be precise as i haven't got a FMIC yet, gotta get it rolling roaded first, then sort a front mount and get it mapped again maybe. Put it like this, my mates Ibiza, which has had race manifold etc and everything changed except the turbo, (running standard KO3 - so he says - and has a printout of 240bhp) beat me lol. Its not running to its potential yet i'd guess at around 220bhp, but i'm hoping its going to be okay for between 260-280bhp when ive got it sorted. I will let you know what results i get when its done mate

I believe the rear lights are the Euro spec with the clear section, think the US had a single smoked stripe.

Mk4 gt tdi's had 15" avus 2 alloys and the 2.slow gti's

240 bhp outta a k03 aint gonna happen he must have a k03s on it. Yeah that will be some nice power, bigger turbo has gotta be done! Working on mine in the garage at the mo. The modding is never done

thats what i said mate, he's adamant its not an S though, which confuses me... He reckons its 'one of the most powerful KO3 cars' about... i'm looking for something to completely prove him wrong though, i wanna get up the back of his turbo and have a look at the no. of blades

Very nice.  Hope to hear more about your proposed mods!

will keep you all informed!! booked in for rolling road at R-tech on Sat 19th Feb, so i can see how much power its currently putting out, and what we can do to getting it running properly on the KO4 setup!!

haha!! hello mate! i had a feeling it was you as a new member, p.s wouldn't appreciate the bonnet slammed on my head, so at least i know where i'm at with you're ride - not that i would have any suspicions with what you told tell me that you get done under your hood...

p.s be careful with a user name like that - if it gets out to any of the 'non car enthusiast' lads they might start throwing banter you're way too!!

Haha yeah, I was gonna wind you up for a bit but then decided to come clean. Alex 16v isn't too bad I don't think!

My take on Jays car is that it is running a K03 turbo at it's 200 bhp limit. If your car is at about 220 bhp as people are suggesting to you on here, it's quite feasible that his is still the faster car even with those figures.

It's all about bhp/ton at the end of the day. The golf weighs significantly more.

Anyway I wouldn't get too hung up about it, theres more to life than racing 2/3k cars about lol.

and when i said a bout the username, you havent heard about the banter ive had from gav/ali about mine? lol, i will inform you next time i speak to you buddy

rang you earlier for a chat, just off out tonight up birmingham thing, and wondered if you were back from uni to attend!

supposed to be a couple of 1.8T mk2's about running 400/500bhp, i wanna go have a nose
