My sills are in need of welding work, and I'm wondering would it be better to buy new sills and get them welded, or repair the existing ones (which are pretty shot tbh).
Any help appreciated.
-
Buy new, place in Westbury is good.

Thanks. I've emailed them requesting a price for both. Hopefully it won't be too expensive.

Just gonna bring this thread back. £60 for both sills, but that doesn't include delivered. This sound okay?

Thanks for the offer Dan. :)
Although I'm debating going with these guys, as delivered I'd be looking at about £60.

Yes but you also need inner sills as well looking at the pictures.
-
Guy on eBay was selling full sills £25 a side so those prices all seem about right.
-
has anyone bought a vr6 splitter on that autopaints4u site? £10.44 for both sides. seems cheap if its genuine?
-
That is bloody cheap but certainly won't be a genuine VW one.
-
at that price it has to be made of paper
-
We have this issue our end, if you have an ME Autoparts near you they're slightly cheaper. £25.00 a side (Y)

Yup thats what you need aright, just be careful tho cus when i went to put my skirts back on, they had either shrunk or the replacment arch wasnt exactly the same shape as the OE one, i just took a hammer too it and bent the botton corner in a tad.
Just thought it was worth a mention, maybe test your skirts for legth befor your man gets heavy with the welding..
All the best Justin

Thanks for the heads up. Friday I'm taking the car to his workshop and the car is going to be completely stripped except the dash, to see if there are any other offending areas. :afro:

You need a new Mk3 then, unless you are handy with a welder and paint will cost ££££
-
my mate is a welder/ fabricator ;) but thought it would be easier to buy the sills to weld in

It is a much cleaner job like that but quite a lot of work, look at TShirt2k or GTI Jamo's build threads.
Hope your friend works for Beer money
-
Had mine done for £150, I supplied the sills and did the painting.

Here ya go

Go back once to see the other side.
-
Is that the outer sill Len?
-
YES!
I would be dubious of doing inner sills, patch with chassis grade sheet, depending on how bad they are.
-
Cheers Len
I think for ease of getting both outer rear sills its eaiser than patching up
-
I use this lot for or my panels and paint http://www.kgcbristol.co.uk/section.php/34/1/92_97 then got both sides welded up for £100 Bargin
