Title: how hard is a 2.0 16v coversion on a mk1?
Post by: BobbyT on 22 February 2005, 20:11
hi, i am interested in fitting a corrado 2.0 16v engine in my mk1 gti. i was thinking of doing it my self, how hard is it and what special parts will i need? will the gear box stay the same? and how much faster will it be or is it better to tune me 1.8 8v? cheers roberto

Use the mk1 engine mounts, flywheel and a 16v pressure plate with a 8v clutch disk. Your g/box will be OK, use a 16v brake master cylinder and servo so the dist cap and leads clear. Get a specialist 4 branch manifold from one of the tuning firms, shift the fuel metering unit to the drivers side and use the inlet pipework to match. You will have to mess about a bit with hoses and things, but if you get that far, you are almost there .
Probably missed a lot of stuff, but have "man" flu.
Steve.
