So how can you change the colour of the trip and clock in the dash clocks in a mk3 found a how to buy can't find it now but also didn't know what I needed or where to get them from
-
i changed mine to blue l.e.d's
u just ahve to take the clocks out (remove the light switch and airbag light on the right, and the dash blank on the left next tot he stereo, there will be 2 screws, undo them and then the clock fascia comes off) just undo the screws holding the clocks in then and pull the unit out.
then you take the old bulbs out along with the green strip, put your new lights in (i presume you have a kit with correct shape l.e.d's/bulbs) and replace them with the new ones
then in traditional haynes style, refitting is the opposite of removal
-
unless you (like me) have the late type clocks then its a whole new ball game, and not user replaceable unless you are me lol
scroll down to the bottom for pics on how i changed them on mine, hopefull yours will be the easy way

If you've already changed the top bulbs you should have seen where the bulbs for the screens are :undecided:
If you look in the pic below the round blue LED's that you can see the back of illuminate the screens

Out of interest, could you not just buy different coloured bulbs? Or replace the strip of green plastic with another colour?
-
Jimmy, if you have bulbs their, you can change them for the same type in any colour (LED type twist fit)

Yup, thats all you do, i've wacked blue LED's in and removed the green plastic strip

Just replace th green strip with whatever colour you want, I cut a piece of clear plastic the same size of the green strip and put red electrical tape on it to give a red filter. You can change the colour to whatever colour electrical tape you can get

Is that the same tape that was "borrowed" from your last job mate ?

Dom - shady needs your green films if you have em... he wants his clocks back to green, and he has Blue LED ones at the mo, or maybe the person who started the thread can do some kind of swap with shady ?

I had the Blue bulbs in my old VR6 and found them not worth the hassle as most times one of the bulbs would play up I think unless its been done like Kells where you change all the switches etc it would look abit odd blue clocks green switches. As said I just removed the green film and that brightens the clocks up loads.Still everyone to there own
