Title: Alloy opinions please
Post by: Dan_GTi8v on 16 January 2011, 00:29
So I was planning on going all black car with black superturismos, but a mate has just offered me a set of Porcshe 928 alloys with brand new bridgestones for £400. ATM they are mirror polished but although no kerbing or anything are looking like they have seen better days.

after opinions on what I should do, polish them up and scrap the whole black thing, maybe getting some clear rears and other bits and pieces to finish off the look, or get them sprayed black?

Heres a link to some on a mk2 on ebay, though these are not the ones I'll be getting these are much more shiney :P

Also what would I need to do to get them fitting nicely on a mk3?

I think theyd look ok black mate, try and get them very glossy black and i think theyd look smart, maybe with a red pinstripe round the lip, red and black seems to work :-) not sure on the fitting but some1 will no mate

What offset are the wheels.

would only work high gloss. Not to sure about a red pinstripe if he's going for all black look
I wouldn't spray them. Keep them polished or oem. I love oem at the moment.

tbh I would be reluctant to spray them just after opinions :P So I guess I'll be getting them polished up :)

I'm kinda new to all the wheel jargon, would all 928's be the same offset or would I need to find out what they are? atm the mate im getting them off has them on his mk1 he just bought with massive spacers/adapters on them :P

You need to find out the offset so you can work out the adaptors needed.

OK I'll ask him, where would it say? printed on the inside or something?

Was going to say you will NEED adaptors, Which can be the most costly part of buying wheels with the wrong PCD for your car!
928's are Sick! But the best Porsche wheel for me are D90's because i have them LOL but Silver Roses are an extremely close second!<3

I reckon a set of 928s would look pretty awesome in black but as long as you retain the original porsche emblem and colours!
I hate it when the emblem is sprayed :( it loses character!!

And yeahhh on the inside next to the rim width (should be engraved)

52.3
Title: Re: Alloy opinions please
Post by: Dan_GTi8v on 16 January 2011, 23:10
are they all ET 52.3?

Also regarding the emblems, one of my pet hates is cars with wheels that have emblems that dont match the car (eg porsche emblems on a golf) so they will probably be going on ebay :)

Porsche emblems look cool!

It doesn't take a lot of imagination to make a link from vag to Porsche either, Ferdinand Porsche designed the beetle, and the Audi S2 was developed with Porsche... It's almost oem!

Nope various offsets available.

Porsche badges are fine all to do with scene points.

The Scene has always been something I couldnt really care less about :P (yeah I know I'm saying this in a thread in which I'm asking for peoples opinions on my car!)

As wayne said, various offsets! The most common is 52.3 i have found though :afro:

Regarding the Porsche badge... it's your car i guess
Why have porsche wheels without the badge? Could find a cheaper set of look alikes?

yeah scene points aside, the crest heps make the rim, without it u will look like your rocking replicas anyhow..
Title: Re: Alloy opinions please
Post by: Dan_GTi8v on 17 January 2011, 17:33
I will know they are not replicas and thats all that matters  will wait and see any how may keep them on may not, probably wont though

whats stopping people sticking original centers on replicas anyway  Only really getting 16s so they will fit over the brakes when I eventually go 312mm
