so it's just dawned on me while having a poo au work.that ive upgraded the brakes.changede the back axle coilovers are on all bushes replaced and then i realised i must have a sh!t anti roll bar.the car is a 1.8 driver 93.do the mk3's have different size anti roll bars?if so what do i need a vr6 one?and is it just a case of changing the tie bars and mounting brackets or is there more to it?its 4 stud if that make a difference.i will poly bush it as i go if it need's changing.it will have a vr6 jump in it soon so dont worry about weight issues.hm on my phone incase you were wondering why i round like a tard.
-
I thought the GTI's / VR6 ones were slightly thicker...but then i could be the person that's wrong here? :undecided:
-
IIRC the standard GTI ones are 20mm and a lot of the upgraded aftermarket ones are either 25 or 28mm.
-
Hmmm ive been looking at bushes for then and they do 18mm or 20mm i will have to go get the vernier out after work in the morning and have a look see.only another 11hours to go lol
-
driver will be 18mm and gti as stated is 20mm (and to fit a gti bar you need the arms too!)
-
Ahhh great stuff thanks. So if i get the anti roll bar 2 track control arms and the brackets underneath that will do me then?does it matter that im running 4 stud as im sure ive read somewhere that the 5 stud wishbones are a little wider. It looks a pain to do too but it will bug me if i dont do it!
-
you cant fit a mk3 gti bar without changing the wishbones and the bearing carriers which means goign 5 stud. fit an uprated MK2 golf/corrado 4 stud one instead, G60 bar is 23mm. SEAT Ibiza/toledos have 20mm+ as well, get down scrappy and have a look
-
Aaaah nice one RJ i was hoping you would see this
So if i go for an uprated G60 affair im looking at just changing the front drop links and the 2 brackets underneath?
-
with the g60 bar the inner brackets and bushes are the same as the 18mm ones, just the outer drop links need doing. the other vag bars may need the inner bushes changing, depends what you get hold of :)
-
Superstar,cheers mate :)
-
I still got the standard anti-roll bar and just "polybushed it". Its also fitted incorrectly, but feels fine. Wouldn't bother with the hassle unless its being tracked or you really want to, or if the car is in bits anyway and you might as well.
-
Im just anal and if i can uprate it i will.
Im stoopid like that
I was going to bob it on when i put the vr6s lump in as im gunna be putting a new subframe in it too.
-
Nice, anal isn't censored
Yer, sounds good. If you can, then do it. I got need too, but if I had known before I did the conversion, then would have fitted a G60 one when the subframe was out. Ahhh well.
-
It's likely i will get an uprated one rather than standard G60 i just dont want it to be too stiff and cause loads of understeer as im going to need all the traction i can get.
-
all a matter of personal opinion and what you use the car for. proper racers often remove the roll bar altogether and put stiffer springs on instead! fwiw i have mk3 widtrack front running gear + eibach roll bars and its great, 50-60mm lowering on there too. (well, its 40mm kit, but abf makes it 50mm+ due to its heavyness )
-
Ive been looking at the Eibach kits RJ.
Was a little confused as to how the rear one fits?It looks like its held on with some massive jubilee clips
-
yep thats basically it, they're mikalore clamps which are a bit better than jubilees. at the outside its held on by the lower shock bolts, 2 longer ones are supplied in the kit
-
Aaah lovely job, cheers for that.I will get one then and if i dont like the look of them clips i will fab something up at work to hold it more securely.
-
ive never heard of a set failing and you see a fair few kicking around :)
