Title: cooling system
Post by: captin_urbis on 14 January 2011, 17:15
just changed my head gasket and now i have come across a problem. the car wont bleed properly. it heats up very quickly and then bubbles all the water out of the header tank.

im guessing it is due to an air lock somewhere. but i cant seem to find it, does anyone have any other ideas??

If you think you've got an air lock, pump the top and bottom radiator hoses to 'pump' coolant around the engine and into the heater matrix.  If you have, you should notice the coolant level in the header tank drop and bubbles appear.

Make sure there is coolant coming out of the overflow pipe from the top of the rad to the header tank with the cap off when you rev the engine. I had a similar problem and found I was not getting the overflow becauu the outflow pipe was blocked just inside the radiator. Cleared it and got my stream of coolant into the header tank and all was well. Before I did this it used to pressurise the system something rotten.

Worth a check.

Also why did the headgasket go?did it overheat? Could be knackered water pump?
