Title: Removing sunroof motor and gumph
Post by: B-chi on 12 January 2011, 12:54
I will be in a month or so strengthening my roof.

As a result the sunroof isn't going to be removed and I'll need to remove the rails and any other gumph that goes along with it.

If I just remove it all the sunroof will fall out won't it.

What's the best way to remove it all. Ideally I would get someone to weld a plate in it's place but this isn't an option.

Thanks karl

If you drop the headlining you will see the whole sunroof assembly is held in with 6 bolts from memory.

But will removing those 6 bolts and whole assembly mean the sunroof will fall out?

What holds the actual sunroof in?

if you want to just remove the motor then it's a few star bolts behind the flap (although these can be very tight!) and the glass will stay where it is unless you remove the runners too!

The 6 bolts removes the whole assembly, the actual sunroof I don't think it can be removed without taking the whole thing out anyway.

I would guess you could fit the panel back in but god only knows.

What is up with your sunroof.

I'm going to be mdfing the roof to reinforce it as my stereo will be rather loud and flex the roof somewhat.

It'll basically be 36mm thick mdf (two 18mm sheets), glued and expandy foamed up.

It should increase my spl as well.

did you not read my reply? Remove motor, sunroof stays closed..although I have worked with big spl cars (a few years back) and all had standard working sunroof's without any modding needed although most used something called brown bread behind the lining to give the car an o.e look

Yeah and you said if I remove the runners it'll fall out.

Roof will be sound deadened with 4mm deadening then I'll cover with the mdf. If it flexs it looses spl (generally), so I'll stick mdf to it.

just leave the runners in situ and remove the motor although it could be worth locking the mech (using screws and silicon seal to stop vibration)

Cool.

I'll looking into just removing the motor then.
