since i bought my mk4 gti-t i loved every minute of it drives lovley and feels great onlyproblem is that it seems to eat all the petrol in the tank lol i put £20 in few days ago and its all gone i aint driving mad changing at 2-3000rpm and cant work it out. only reason i ask as my mates got a aum mk4 with a remap front mount forge dv and induction kit and can go all week on £20 worth on fuel
i was just wondering does the remap give you better fuel eccomony or there something wrong with mine

remap will give slightly better economy. How many miles are you doing on the £20, it may not last you a week, but e.g. your mate could be doing 50 miles a week in his AUM, but you might be doing 50 miles a day, so obviously your going to get through more fuel than him. If your doing similar mileage, you should get it checked out. Use a fault code reader to see if anything comes up, if you want one, get a U280 or U281 off ebay and see what happens (y)

what mpg is the trip showing? should be around the 35 mark (or atleast thats what i seem to get)

yeah 20quids worth of fuel doesnt last me long. But i have a heavy right foot. Also depends what your running it on super or regular unleaded?

full tank of momentum.. easy driving just to work and back mainly.. 300/330 miles to a tank.. not a lot for a big tank !!

im using bp normal unleaded and the most i seen my trip at was 28mpg the average i seem to be getting is 20mpg and thats driving and changing at 2.5rpm lol so i might get it looked at

I'm getting about 27-30 mpg with mixed driving. 1.8t's have never been that economical even with a light right foot, give them any amount of medium right foot and fuel just gets dumped through those injectors. We had a factory fresh one about 10 years ago, the wife could get that to push about 35mpg on a longish journey. Wasn't really any issue then as fuel costs had only just start to soar.
When I first started driving in 1990 I can remember filling up at 35p per litre, them wer days lad.

I suspect its just the cost of fuel that's the problem. When it is all but 6 quid a gallon you don't even get quarter of a tank for 20 notes so it aint going to last long whatever you drive. If your like me and remember when fuel was cheap and still go and stick a tenner in thinking that will last the week but lucky if it makes it back from the petrol station on it now! :shocked:
I passed my test in 95 and i had a mk1 golf that used leaded fuel at 40 odd pence a litre and that was expensive as a poor student. oh happy days.

Yup, I reckon the same. Be interesting to log how many people think they have a fuelling problem or leaking tank every time fuel prices increase. I tend to always fill up so the mileage per tank is pretty much constant, it's just the debit card receipt that changes.
If you only ever top up in £20 lumps you will notice a reduction in miles per cost as you are basically buying less fuel.

i do short runs and the trip seems to be around 20-25 but i like to hear the turbo whistle :tongue:
best ive had on a long run was nearly 42/45 (or nearly 50 driving like an old women @ 55mph) - mines remapped

Im the mate! he does average mileage, alot of stop start type of driving ( same as me) £20 a week with this kind of driving gets me around 80 miles, we both live around 2miles from work. so car never warms up fully, this is obviously using more fuel.
i can 90 miles on the motorway and use £10 worth of fuel, but around our town its crap.
we both filled up with £20 last sat, i only just put another £20 this morning. but hes used nearly £60 worth i think.
i done a quick scan on his and got the fuel bank one rich code, but with that was the pressure drop between turbo and throttle. (dv) as its a standard bosh dv i would imagine its shot, causing the other code.
i said to him it could be a possible MAF failure. as it does seem to use alot of juice.

Could also be he is doing longer journeys with a hotter engine and you may be doing alot of stop starts up and down the gears ect

My bank one rich code was cured when i got my lambda sensor changed. do the D.V put a forge 007p on instead as its stronger than standard, if thats what the problem is. See if that cures the bank 1 running rich, if it doesn't i would say its the first lambda sensor, as the golf has i belive. one on manifold, and one on the cat? someone correct me if i am wrong :smiley:

i had the same problem. I went for my remap at R-tech and they checked the car over and found it was the MAF that was giving off dodgy readings so that might be a good place to start, now im saving a fair bit on fuel as i do about 650miles a week :smiley:! Get a Gen one tho, mine was a new aftermarket one and it was giving off dodgy readings, causing the engine to over fuel!
VW charge about £70 for a new one, best price i could find even at mates rates!
Or find someone with VAGCOM, you'll soon find out if theres a problem

colder weather also affects your cars mpg, does your temp needle reach 90? once its all fully warmed up do you still get petrol smell from exhaust? could be temp sender telling ecu its still cold and running rich.
mines averaging jst under 30mpg on short journeys, but the other day i managed nearly 45 mpg, 40mph in 5th for a few miles.
i actually find these engines quite good on mpg compared to other turbo'd engines, mates 200sx seemed to just chuck the petrol straight our the exhaust!
