Title: LJK Setright
Post by: Egbutt Wash on 11 January 2011, 00:18
I remember a road test of the Mk2 GTI by LJK in CAR when he bemoaned the lardy nature of the new car compared to the light and nimble Mk1.
The recieved wisdom is that the Mk2 is the one to have, but I do not agree.  If you want an old GTI I go with LJK, the Mk1 is the one to have.  Who wants sloppy seconds?

Ha ha, Legend.... RIP....

I like the MK2 golf, it refined bits from the MK1 but at a price in places. It's just not old skool enough for me and obviously being slightly biassed I prefer the mk1 over all 6!

Mk1 GTI is highlighted as one of the 5 most significant cars of all time by Autocar.
If you want an old car (done that and I personally don't) it's the one to get.
Might be worth a bit in the future too.
