Title: So the wait goes on and on and on
Post by: GTI-J on 10 January 2011, 20:17
Greetings all, thought I'd sign-up, say hello and see if anyone else has been waiting 7 months for a GTI?  Ordered in early June 2010 and now have a build week of 17 so by the time its delivered in May a staggering 11 months will have past!

Can anyone beat this?

Welcome and lots of sympathy.

I think that's how long it may take for an elephant to give birth. Hope you don't get one of them.
Surely it should be comforting to know that you're most probably at the top of the waiting list by now.

It's good to break records, but positively not this one!

Whoops! You'll have to fight p3eps to get to the top! Fortunately, he did not get an elephant so there is hope for you yet!

I put a deposit down on the 28th May 2009 and the car was delivered on the 16th April 2010!

Point of deposit doesn't actually mean point of order on cars like these which have very limited allocation. Especially when the car can't even be ordered yet p3eps? : )

Placed my order in August 2009, it arrived 8 moths later in May, well worth the wait though. Try to put it to the back of your mind, its easier that way...assuming you like your music, you'll love the dyaudio, i do.

All good things.. and all that.....

Didn't you put the deposit down way before they started taking orders for the R? Thats cheating!

Holy S**t!  Mine was ordered Mid Sept, for a supposed delivery in May, but not confirmed yet.  What is it with the whole Volkswagen/Audi group?  My mate ordered an A3 S-Line back in May 2010 and is still waiting, last confirmed as build week 4.  Then on the other two hand two colleagues ordered GTD's in Sept 2010, one delivered end of Nov 2010, the other last week.  Doesn't make sense.

The two GTD's sure did make me want mine all the more!  Just try to get some things booked in between to try and make the time fly, it's bloody awful counting down the days tho..

I was reading an article about the inefficient Wolfsburg plant which is contributing to Golf production delays. It is considered to be the most inefficient in the VW empire with probably the highest labour costs.

Management have their hands tied as the powerful German Unions have a stake in VW and and the required improvement in efficiency cannot be implemented that easily.

Additionally, it has been mentioned that little or no room for a 'physical' expansion exists at that venue. The factory working at full capacity at present.

Interesting, might seem like a daft question, but does this same plant produce the Audi A3?  Going back to the two GTD's that took 2-3 months from order to delivery, a Bluemotion Golf which was ordered at the same time is still awaiting.  So it seems at least on this occasion that the GTD's are getting their quota on the production line.

Maybe this explains the reason that the Mk6 GTI is as rare as rocking horse s**t?  I have constantly been on the look out since test driving and ordering mine, and can only think of a handful of occasions of seeing a GTI and one of those was because I passed a VW dealership!

Yet again, I'ma little with my response to the original thread...........
I ordered mine at the end of April 2010 and was finally delivered in early August 2010

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones

It'll be worth the wait !

I was lucky as well, ordered February 2010 for expected September delivery. Came July 2010, something to do with a cancelled order meaning mine got an earlier build slot.

I wonder how much is VW and how much is dealers selling an allocation they don't have.

Welcome GTI-J, try ordered Sept 09, delivered April 10, stolen next day, finally got car back July 10!! It was one hell of a wait but like the other forum regulars I have to say it was worth it. I spent 10 months looking out for GTI's & I still do it now. Read the thread "spotted", there ain't that many of us around! So when it does turn up u will be one of a very small, select (easy Mk5'ers) group of people. You will enjoy, trust me

You will indeed enjoy. I ordered mine late May 09 and it turned up 6 weeks later and I've grinned ever since.
Having said that I wouldn't wait ten months for one - that really is taking the p***
Colleague at work had to wait a good 6 months for an Octavia VRs with the 210 petrol engine. He got it as a DSG in that Skoda blue (a bit like the R32 blue) and it looks well smart to me. But 6 months is a long wait for that too so it must be a VW Group thing.

Yes, your powder does wash whiter than white. Long may it last. Don't forget to use a fabric softener.

Ok the missus googled it and tells me it is a quote first used in Car Wash (1977). Before my time mate.

The actor was Antonio Fargas who also played Huggy Bear in Starsky and Hutch.

Good things come to those who wait I guess. Its not for me though. When I brought mine I enjoyed the chase of searching the country for a nearly new GTi to the spec I wanted. Within a couple of weeks I hand a nice new GTi sitting on my drive. Saved a few pennies as well. Yes I would have liked a brand new one but its not something I'm that fussed about.
