Has anyone that has done any tweaks with Vagcom had any problems afterward? The reason i ask is i would like to get a couple things changed, mainly dial staging, deactivate auto rear wiper and auto window closure when it rains. I know a few on here have done some bits and bobs but does it ever bugger anything up?
-
Only if it's done by an idiot
Where are you based?
-
I'm not far from birmingham mate but i should be having a run up to Darren's on saturday to get bluetooth fitted all being well, so was going to ask him to do it for a few beer tokens, tbh it's my missus that has put doubt in my mind about problems if the car has to go in for anything. :undecided:
Have you done the staging thing cos that and the rear wiper is what i'd like doing most?
-
Not the staging as it's not for me but yes I've done the wiper and done a "how to" on it, Darren knows what he's doing so you'll have no problems there.
-
Yeah, that rear wiper is a good one I reckon. It really pee's me off when I'm reversing and the wiper decided to scrape accross a dry bit dirty screen leaving a right mess
Must look into getting that one done myself.

Just had a look at your how to mate, what do byte 2 and 3 do?

Well I've only just bought myself VCDS (http://www.ilexa.co.uk/acatalog/vagcom.html) for Christmas so I haven't done much with it at the moment apart from a couple of autoscans that bring up a couple of faults and I've extended the heated rear window/mirror timer from 10 to 14 minutes.
There are tweaks on other forums I noticed one the other day VCDS MKVI / MK6 Platform, Handy Coding tweaks (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4743553-VCDS-MKVI-MK6-Platform-Handy-Coding-tweaks) setup by Dana from Ross-Tech. I know its a TDI forum but a lot of tweaks are common to all models.
To be honest I find the help crap on VDCS as there isn't any apart from the basic setup pdf. I'm trying to get the TDI forum I use the most to have a VCDS/VAG-COM section (http://www.myturbodiesel.com/forum/f10/vcds-vag-com-section-here-3918/)
-
What kind of faults Keith? From something you've had done or just issues with the car itself?
-
No I've done nothing to it only the heated rear window timer last weekend.
I did an autoscan after Christmas and it showed
03-ABS Brakes -- Status: Malfunction 0010
1 Fault Found:
02214 - Tire Pressure Warning
002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 8041 km
Date: 2010.14.04
I don't know why it shows the current mileage and last years date when it wasn't at the dealers or is that when the fault first got logged?
09-Cent. Elect. -- Status: Malfunction 0010
1 Fault Found:
00897 - Windshield Washer Pump (V5)
012 - Electrical Fault in Circuit - Intermittent
The washers have always worked perfectly. I decided to clear all faults and autoscan it again last weekend. After clearing it still shows
03-ABS Brakes -- Status: Malfunction 0010 [both in red]
09-Cent. Elect. -- Status: Malfunction 0010
But No fault code found. on all systems.
-
The date tends to be wrong a lot of the time Keith, I can't say why, I'd suggest asking on that forum but you know where that ends up
I know that you'll know thus but if you look in Mk6 Maintenance there's a stcky on VCDS tweaks - would you like your own vcds section in there or maybe in the MK6 TDI section?
It would be quite good for you to do a blog as you go along explaining what you've done, where you've found help and what your struggling with, if you have the time of course :-)
Typing on my IPhone so please forgive the spelling.

Thanks for the info Doc.
The other thing is it shows the mileage in km, if it knows its a UK spec then it should convert it to miles?
-

Yeah, but the rear wiper only operates when you select reverse if the windscreen wipers are "On" or on "Auto". If the wipers are turned on then presumably it's raining, so where's the problem?
-
If you leave your window wipers on auto? Sometimes I do and that happens, am turning mine off tonight with vagcom.

My post a while back, and reason i would like it cancelling. http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=173756.0
I take it you haven't had any issues with the staging then snoopy?
-
No problem with staging i have noticed.
I turned my rear wiper off simply because of ice/snow. The last thing i want is it to rip the blade off and scratch the rear window. Its bad enough having to be careful de-icing the front wipers i often just leave the back wiper stuck and let the heater do its job.

Sometimes the rain is only a few spots but is enough to get the rear wiper to smear sh!te all over your screen even though the front is only being wiped once in quite a long while. The whole point of auto wipers and rain detectors is that you do leave them on and forget about them. Well I do anyway.

Sorry Keith you've lost me with this bit

When I did a scan of mine in the results it showed the mileage in km I would have thought if it knows its a UK model then it would have converted it to miles?
I did a scan on a 2000 Golf TDI yesterday and it showed km and miles in the results.
Thats what I was complaining about showing both km and miles. I know it isn't a big job to convert it myself bit its a computer programme that should do it automatically.
Does your scan in km and miles?

Fair point, I have occasionally left my wipers on Auto, and when the rains been light got a smeared rear window, but it's not something that you can't get round by doing a rear wash to clear it. Snow and ice is a different matter as you could damage the wiper.

Thanks to Snoopy for helping me out with a few VCDS codes today
much appreciated
-
Not a problem,
If you want those fault codes clearing now we know what they are just let me know.
-
Cheers I might do. No rush as long as its not affecting the car and we know they were spurious anyway.
I'll post that numberplate surround for you tomorrow.
