I'm considering ordering some quick detailer from waxamomo but my question is which one should i go for and what is the best type of towel for applying/removing it? any recommendations would be great. I just don't seem to have the time for a full wax session just lately so thought QD would be a good idea in the mean time.
-
Speak to waxamomo. Megs Last Touch and Dodo Born to be Slippy are good.
-
I thought born slippy was a lube? might go for Red mist though.

Ah yes you are correct - Red Mist is what you want!
I currently use Megs Last Touch - good stuff.
-
Can't seem to find Last touch on waxamomo's site? unless i'm just being a numpty!
-
I don't think he has it - but ask him he might be able to get some.
-
Here you go, third line down:

Last Touch and Red Mist are two totally different products, LT is a Quick detail/Lube, whereas Red Mist is a spray sealant.

Ahh, so which woud you recommend for when just haven't got the time to wax as a top up? and which towels do you think would suit? cheers chris.
-
I'm using Red Mist Tropical at the moment, it's great for adding a bit of protection in between waxing, and the best thing is you can do a whole car in next to no time at all.
As for towels/microfibres, maybe Dodo Juice Fantastic Furs
-
Thats great chris thanks, got the three pack of FF's from you last time but might get another. can i put dodo wax over red mist or would i have to clay it all first? sorry to be a pain. :embarassed:
-
You could try some AG aqua wax, just spray and wipe or some AG Extra gloss protection
-
I'm useing Red mist Tropical which is ace , I also use Chemical guys for drying brillaint stuff.

When did you last use Red Mist on the car? If it's over a week or so, a nice wash and you will be fine to apply the Dodo Wax
-
I haven't bought the red mist yet mate but you've answered my question anyway, cheers. I'll get my order in! I'm low on shampoo as well so i'm gonna give BTBM a try too, thanks guys.

Do have to worry about overspray onto the plastics much with red mist Steve?

What you wll find is the Red mist has a tiny spray nozzle, which wont get on to your plastic's any way mate. Chemical Guys pro detaler is also very good, and you can buy a gallon of it which is brilliant

red mist and rm tropical do look good qd's, not tried them myself yet, i do have all 4 megs qd's, LT is from the detailer range, can be diluted, smells of cherries i think, and probably megs 2nd best qd, ultimate quik detailer is their best as its water repellent and beads water better than most other sprays
-
DJ RM does react with some freshly applied waxes... can go 'spotty' if applied incorrectly
I wouldn't confuse a QD with protection... I certainly wouldn't count on using RM as an final protective layer...
a couple of layers of a good hard wax, in this weather something like collinite, preferably preceded with a sealant like Jetseal 109, will provide much better protection

The Red Mist is good for what it is meant to do, but takes a lot more buffing than you might expect. First time I used it the car looked great, but as soon as I saw it in direct sunlight lots of swirling was visible. To get a perfect finish it probably takes as much or more buffing than a wax. [I only use top quality micro fibres by the way]
I know it's not a detailer, but my favourite is Meguiars NXT Tech Wax2, it's fairly easy to use and leaves a superb shine with no swirling and the water beading is excellent. Almost as quick as a detailer but much longer lasting.

Im with Guy - Jetseal followed by A good quality coat of wax or 2 or 3
I dont really bother with stuff like red mist, nor do i bother doing rush type cleaning (as it always leads to scratch marks)
@ RickS, the swirls you mention were prob always their, but probably masked/hiden by the fillers in the products you been using. Using sh!t MF cloth will cause swirls as will using a spong etc, TBF the more you touch your car - even with a good lambswool mit and good quality MF cloths etc, your always at risk of more swirls or light marks, when drying my car i find patting it dry helps reduce this risk
i machined all swirls out of mine again last week, jetsealed it, then 3 coats of DD Puple Haze, Zero swirls under halogen lights and zero hologram marks under the sun - not an easy feat on a flat black car
-
to sum up anyway, all detailers are different, so it all depends what you want from it, whether its one of the 4 megs, or even the 2 dodo's, some contain cleansing agents, some dont, some contain hydrophobic polymers, some dont!

Nice looking motor F17. Yes I agree, it is the fillers in the Tech 2 and other similar products that prevent the appearance of swirls/holograms; but it does give a superb finish as well.
The carbon grey metallic is also a nightmare to keep looking at it's best, it shows every little bit of dirt or swirl/hologram [but I love the colour so have to put up with it]

thanks for the comment :-)
and yea i hear you RE keeping the paint looking good, iv spent hours on mine, checking it under sodium lighting, halogen lighting and also Extream Sun, as certain marks can only be seen under certain lighting (hologram marks mainly)
I hear a product called Black hole is good for masking minor marks like this but iv not needed to try it as of yet, i didnt realise you had a mk 6 GTI - my friend just got one, very nice, soft paint on those and they swirl real easy - DO NOT let the dealer clean the car when it goes in for service, Swirl city!
Im like you i love my colour so its is all worth it haha , that Carbon Grey is the very same colour as my friends - VERY nice colour i must admit

I've got some Poorboys Black Hole specially made for dark colours [bought it for another car I used to own] It does mask swirls/holograms and even minor scratches, but I still think the Megs Tech 2 is best all round for new paintwork.
Thanks for the warning, but don't worry, no chance of letting the dealer wash my car, gonna make a big point of telling them that as it's due first service on 15 March. I don't think the metallic paints are as soft as the solid colours and to be honest I think the swirls on mine are not on the paint but on the Auto Glym Lifeshine I had put on from new. I don't think the dealer buffed it out fully, leaving some swirls which are only visible in bright sunlight [just on doors], but the Megs makes these disappear completely.
Enjoy

i might give the Megs stuff a test run mate, cheers for heads up on it
