i thinks it may be rotten.

also since when has a VR6 managed 38mpg   i chould learn to like the heavy old boat anchors if they gave that sort of economy.  onse i've met stuggel to see 28mpg

Im sorry but if you can throw the kind of money he 'supposedly' has... you can afford to fix it, surely?

Good point, you dont throw thousands of pounds at a car to then sell it when the head gasket goes.

Nasty horrible engine the VR6.  Weak as a ripe banana.
Ours destroyed itself when a cam belt tensioner failed.

I think it's a mindset problem. "Head gasket's on the way out, but Halfords have a discount on alloys this week... I better get down to Halfords ASAP."

Surely learning the hard way would be to make him save his pocket money to pay to get the car fixed. Not try and sell it for a stupid amount of money and buy another car. Im guessing he gets a saxo next.

Still that bodykit must be doing a great job to get those sorts of mpg figures. Time to chav my one up and save a fortune at the pumps.

They cant afford to fix it (quoted £400) yet they are selling it with a DVD unit worth £600! This is a bad ad and i think there is more wrong with it than they let on.

Ooooh, we can make him offers for it.

Right, who's up for making some bound-to-be-turned-down offers then?

I'll start with 1/10 of the fantasy value.

Its always sad to see how some vws end up some people do make a nice looking car look awfull but we all have different tastes in our cars.I would say the lad may well have spent a silly amount of money on it and he could have fell on bad times who knows but its clear his dads just trying to sell the car for his son and trying to pull back some kind of money for him.Like most people that over value their cars they soon come down to earth when they cant sell it but I cant really see the point in messaging the guy and offering silly bids after all guys only trying to sell a car no one has to buy it.

£150 offer countered by £1000.

So we've now established he'll definitely take two thirds of what he's asking.

This is reciprocal p*ss-taking.

Asking £1500 is clearly a gambit.  The result of this is his counter offer, which is an already enormous lowering of his trousers.  Odds on if I wanted the car it'd wind up around £500, probably without the head unit.

For those struggling with this whole process, it's called 'haggling'.

Im not struggling with the process of haggling at all couldnt agree more and I buy cars on a weekly to monthly basis so I know how to haggle.Problem ive got is we all know its not a great looking car and its over priced etc etc why not leave it at that instead of  messaging him and place bids on something you have no intention of buying dont think I would appreciate someone  messing me about on a sale of my car just for the fun off it.

But how often do you advertise your cars at unrealistic prices?

Do that and you'll just attract p*ss-takers.

Sheesh - Golf3 owners - they're just like skint Golf6 owners.

I've put up a car at an unrealistic price and gotten the unrealistic price. Worth a shot.

Yup, sometimes it works, but normally it needs to be a car that works and can be driven away!

Personally I don't think its the dad trying to sell the car ... thats just part of the 'marketing' tactic. Really its mr barryboy trying to sell his motor with a bullsh!t sob story that some one may be able to relate too.

Why? because.

A. His son's insured on a VR6 (must cost a lot)
B. He's spent thousands to modify it.
C. Why the hell can he not leave it on the drive/road till he can afford to fix it for £400 ...

Somethings not right.
