Hi,
New to the forum and just got a mk3 8v 2.0ltr gti (150K) with some probs. 1995 vintage and ADY engine.
Have started to fix the simple things - Tyres/ Cam belt / oil+filters / plugs / dist cap and rotor arm / drive belts.
When warm, the car runs well and returns about 35-40 mpg on a run. From cold, the engine runs rough and for the first few miles is very hesitant and juddery.
I would like to be able to use VAGCOM and I see that there are lots on offer on ebay. Can anyone please advise if they are any good and if so which type to get ? Many thanks.
From reading this excellent forum, I changed the temp sensor today in the hope it may help my cold running problem. I won't know until the morning on it's first cold start if it has worked or not.
Any info/tips much appreciated

Hi & Welcome

Thanks for the welcome chaps...
The water temp sender has made a great improvement to my cold start problem. Lots more to do yet.
This is my 4th Golf over the years ... Mk2 16v (the best ever), Mk3 16V, MK3 GL Estate, Mk3 GTI 8V.
All the previous cars were either new or very low milage and never gave any probs even at 90k when I parted with them. Great cars. This is my first 'old' gti, no service history and 10 previous owners so I guess there may be many surprises to come ! must say though that on the road it handles fine and is plenty fast enough for me.
