To FPR, put your no-buzz T peice on the vacuum hose that comes off the back of it... may be brittle and need replacing.

Theres a grommet thats under heatshielding stuff on back right hand side of engine bay as you look at it that comes out under glovebox, put coathanger through and pull from inside, wont need to remove glovebox, where you put it inside is up to you..

Wire it to your headlight switch, positive wire from gauge to the blue/grey one in switch, earth from boost gauge to brown wire in switch.

Running down the side of the bonnet opening is a plastic cover, need to remove that as I think that hides a hidden screw

When I upgraded to the 5.5 litre bottle I found it easiest to remove the front bumper and the headlight to give you plenty of room

If i remember rightly, you put the switch in upright position and pull.

But i found it easier to take of the panel on the side, same level as steering wheel and remove the harness from the back of the switch itself, and then splice in on that and then push back on..

Blue/grey = power
Brown = ground

You may have more cables connected to the harness than this picture shows, just make sure you get them two

Helpful pictures..

In relation to your water bottle. I had a problem with the water gushing out and it turned out to be the motor housing. When I used the washers the pressure pushed the motor up in its housing letting all the water out. Pushed the motor back down and it stopped. A small drizzle of super glue and the motor has stayed where it supposed to and no leak
This was on a model with headlight washers so don't know if that makes any difference.

was the water gushing out from below the bottle as i can see on mine that its gushing out on the bottom of the bottle can literally see the water flowing out.. dont know if a pipe may have got damaged due to the freezing temp

May well have done if the water froze. Ice takes up more room than water...

it shouldn't have frozen if you had the correct concentration of washer fluid in it

If you haven't already I'd get the 5.5 litre bottle to replace it.  Approx £20.  You'll also need a grommet or two  to plug the extra hole for the headlight washers.  You can get those from Halfords.

Of course if you have headlight washers then none of the above applies

If you're ripping it all out you just as well upgrade

Exactly my point about the concentration of washer fluid

£20 for the bottle and lots of bruised / scraped knuckles.  The old one comes out really easily, the new one doesn't go back in quite as easily.  Worth it though as it will ages between having to fill the thing up

Hi guys - suffering the same issue myself with the washer bottle chucking the entire contents. I already have the 5.3L bottle as part of the winter pack fitted (Headlight washers fitted), but the previously mentioned part number (Part: 1J0 955 453 L)the one for the larger bottle?

Was trying the remove the flippin thing in the cold and wet today only to manage taking the top bolt off, but looking at this its best to remove bumper and headlight to get at the fecker......?!?!?

Best to replace bottle anyway or try and repair old faulty one.......?

PS - I didnt have any Concentrate in the bottle either so i know its my own fault......

Post by: Rhyso on 09 January 2011, 20:16
IIRC there is a bolt holding it  at the bottom and the only way to get the bottle  out is by removing the bumper and headlight.  It's physically impossible otherwise

The part number is for the larger bottle

For the the price i'd get a new one.  Don't forget your washer fluid too

Ironically i had just purchased the washer fluid with the weather in mind, but too little too late......

will have to fit new monster bottle before the MOT in March as i dont think the old 2 litre coke bottle of water in the boot will do any good for the annual test me thinks....

Will post a price for new bottle etc if not already done by navmk4gti.....

I took my bottle out not so long agow as it was pissing out with liquid and i didn't have to take the light or the bumper off. Granted it was trick but i was able to do this. Small bottle mind you not he 5L one. I thort i fixed the thing only to put it all back together and find it was not the place i thort it was. I now think it's the rubber gromit the pump pushes through into the bottle. This has split and alowing the liquid out

mornign mate.
it took me about 30 mins to get the bottle out. With a little pulling and shuving it came out. Disconected the pipes to the motor and the wires. Then palled the motor out. The undid the the 2 plastic 10mm bolt/washer combo. This is the hard est bit as its a little tricky to get to but not inposable. You then just move the bottle out :)

HI folks - Just had a look at the washer bottle today and found that one of the hoses that comes off one of the washer motors (the one behind the washer bottle as you look at it) had simply come off and thats why the flippin thing was emptying the entire contents on the floor......Think this happened when the bottle froze and the ice expanded and luckily for me the pipe just came off instead of cracking the bottle...

Might be worth a look for anyone else thats havin this problem before you buy another bottle just to check that the  plumbing pipes are connected first...might save a few quid..

I still had to take the bumper off and headlight out to get at it though... Pain in the aris...
