Title: mk2 dipping

Hi has anyone had there mk2 shell dipped, in the process of rebuilding my mk2.
been looking into acid dipping the shell but dont know the full process or effects of it after some advice, or if anyone knows if theres anywere in the south that does it?? any help would be brilliant

Unless the car is in a dire state then why take it back to bare metal.  They are very well covered in waxoil underneath.  You can clean all that off and re apply.

You must make sure you do a thououghly propper job if painting from bare metal. Not just to get the finish right, but to make sure it doesn't rust in a few years.

i stripped the shell, respraying underneath and thought dipping was best way of removing underseal/waxoyl, the car will be nice weather only. i was gonna respray underneath with no underseal or waxoyl. cheers

Check out the classic mags you can get shells dipped but it will remove everything.

i watched some campervan thing on a sky channel.. he had his camper dipped and then they acid  etch primered it and then he went from there..

I do soda blasting and ive seen holes through floor pans even though they have been covered in waxoil (foot wells and jacking points). One thing about chemical is that it gets into every corner but you do have to strip the car to bare bones.

with soda you can leave the glass in, plastics on and blast away the bad bits. both do the same thing but have their advantages and disadvantages.  :smiley:

Went to see a rallye today. The plans were to bare shell it and bring to a show with me  :laugh:

Around £750 but well worth it, so much easier then getting all the underseal off by hand.
